Best ROTC Programs?

One important thing to look at when looking at ROTC schools is their commisioning rate. Last summer I looking at VMI and Virginia Tech. Both schools are VERY diffrent from one another and both are very good schools. What did it for me was that last year VMI only had 17-35% of their graduating class choose the military while virginia tech had more than 80%. For me, I thought going to a school where most of the other kids had the same end goal as me would be easier. I have since decided not to participate in ROTC, but I have had a good amount of experience in the subject. As far as Army ROTC goes Vtech as been ranked as the #1 ROTC school in the country for the past 3 years.

P.S. GHLord congrats on VTech

Congratulations to your son! My son will also be attending VT this fall with the Marines ROTC in the Engineering program. What an exciting time! VT was his first choice as well. He has been interested in the Marines for a few years now and he is so excited to be a part of the VT program. My other son also attends VT and is majoring in Engineering as well. What a GREAT school and from what I hear, an EXCELLENT ROTC program! I think they've brought on a couple of great guys!

I'm so glad to hear that about Virginia Tech! I know that my son plans to pursue the Military route indefinitely, long after the schooling ends! Thanks for the info!

WVU has a very good Army ROTC program. I believe the Mountaineer battalion was #1 in non-military schools on the east coast.

Alot of factors contribute to how good the program is.

Personally, I'd say North Georgia College & State University has a great Army ROTC program. I personally visited it and attended their Leadership Seminar and found they are well put together, proud, and motivated in all they do. Not to mention the #1 cadet in the nation this year is currently attending there...seems like they know what it takes to make you a great cadet.

He is right, North Georgia has a great program, almost all of their cadets get one of their top 3 choices, and they do better at LDAC than any other military college and have the stats to prove it. I also went to the leadership seminar there and thought the program was great and got to meet the number 1 cadet in the nation. The only thing I didn't like was that it is kind of a small school, but besides that it has a great program.

Press release June 2008, IU ranked #1 in Nation
Indiana University received the 2007 Cadet Command OFPA Outstanding Army ROTC Unit from US Army Cadet Command.

IU won ranger challenge in 2008, ranked #4 LDAC

Great program!
