Best service uniform

Only if you give them one point for each type of rank insignia. Then their score is too high for them to count for themselves. :thumb:

The USMA cadets don’t have a problem with the insignia, but I suppose it is too complicated for you water babies!

That's a pic of the company guide running ahead of the company to mark the proper spot for the company to march towards.

In Zap's absence, I think I can speak for him. We both realize the function of the guide. If Zap wasn't asking, I will ask, why does this guy look like he is getting ready to land in a pile of cow ****? (common expression down here on the farm)

Thanks for starting WWIII Chip.

I hate to seem uh... somewhat traitorous... but for two years running at the All Academies Ball thing, parents voted that the WP kids looked the sharpest with KP coming in second in their choker blacks. Those WP kids did catch some attention. I still like a guy in SDBs. Kinda yummy lookin' when they are my age. :shake:

KaMi, thanks for the lesson for us non-military folks. Makes sense now why the guy is running to claim the pile of cow dung. Its mostly for the Plebes to stand in. Heh.

I just wonder why all of these other SA's include Navy Blue and Gold in their fanciest party wear? I sincerely believe that they are so envious of the Navy quality and character that they feel the need to exhibit our colors out of a need to be as squared away! I guarantee that there was no confusion, by any spectator, anywhere in the world, what I was and who I served while in sparkling Summer Dress Whites. 'Course, after liberty, it may have been a different story! Whose got the bleach and "Wite Out"!

Well, since its the color p-rade, everyone has to march, so you have a bunch of team captains and other batt and reg staff who don't have a spot in the wedge marching with their companies.

In the company, only the CC, XO, and platoon commanders carry swords, so everyone else has to find a rifle. The color p-rade is actually the p-rade where lots of sports team people march their only time during the year.

KaMiKaZi,

Thanks. Back in the days of wooden ships and iron men, team captains did not rate strips and there was a place in the "wedge" for all battalion, regimental, and brigade stripers. I guess like everywhere else, upper management continues to grow.

No, we just don't need that many decorations to make us feel important.

It's the plume on the hat, reminds me of high school marching bands. It is a matter of taste but... Sorry... but no military uniform should have plumes!

Kind of reminds me of what a South American dictator would wear.

From 2011's Mom's link:

Some of the informal feedback about the current service dress includes Airmen wanting to revamp the service dress to look more military, like the other services. One senior airman said, “the current uniform resembles a cheesy business suit.” A staff sergeant said, “think world’s most dominating air power, not CEO,” and another described it as a “cheap leisure suit.”

Other comments have suggested that the uniform needs to reflect the Air Force’s history more. On an Internet message board an Airman recently wrote, “I want to look good and be proud of my AF heritage.” Another Airman wrote that the dress uniform pales in comparison to any of the other services. "We need something that distinguishes us as proud members of the U.S. military.”

From their own opinions, we should either eliminate the AF from the voting or just automatically give them last place.:thumb:

Looks to me like something John Philip Sousa might wear on a dress-down day.

So here we are with a bunch of parents in the 1956 room in building 606 at West Point. Listening to a q & a with a 2/c cadet.
The kids have gone with their plebes and one kids little brother asks about the hats and plumes as there is a picture on the wall.
The cadets answers the question and then says "Oh by the way - we call those donkey dicks"!!! Deadpanned it right in front of all these parents - hilarious. (of course I laughed)

There might be a fine line between a uniform and a costume.

First, one word about the new Air Force uniform...YUK! I thought they were trying to get away from the leisure suit look.

Second, I like the plumes. (I guess I'm just strange  )

Third, Just A Mom -- Love your story, it made me laugh outloud. :yllol:

I think they all have their plusses. However, if I had to choose, Navy first (something about the dress whites and "Officer and a Gentleman" with Richard Gere, plus throw in some "Top Gun"). I'm done fanning myself.

Alternately, my husband wore his AF mess dress @ our wedding and looked down right hunk-y!

The AF has always had problems with the uniforms. NO ONE liked the Class A between the old style (four buttons) and the one they use now. They all complained it looked like an airline pilot uniform. I don't know who designed that one!
