If basic ends in the first week of August, what do the fourth years do in between the first week of August and when the academics starts?

Move to their fall squadrons, get their computers, class schedules, attend briefings, buy books, etc.

How will the new Cadets

buy their Books? Guess what I'm wondering is how to know what comes 'issued', and comes out of their pay monthly and that which they must pay for with their/our own cash/credit card? Thank you.

You'll buy your books and school supplies out of pocket. As soon as you get your computer, my advice is you ask a cadre/upperclassman to show you what classes you'll be in and get the textbook list. That way you might be able to order at least some of the common books from 3*s or online. Even new on Amazon with Prime shipping is usually cheaper than you'll find from the C-store.

Smart point guard...looking for a date that's all...figured that's what the forum is for...

First day of classes is August 7th. Definitely need to cost compare books if you can. Sometimes C store is actually a better price. For the first semester they will have little time. They may just have to go with the C store for the most part. Upperclassmen can help. Also, each freshmen will have a sophomore 'coach' who is there to guide them. They will be a big help.

He gave you the date in the title of his reply. Attention to detail.

You cannot see the secondary titles if you are on a phone and using the app to view a reply.

I know so little

I was psyched to contribute something. I certainly wouldn't try to be indignant or a smart#$%. Not sure what Stealth means as I'm on a Laptop and only know I have to fill in the title and body with something so I split it up.

Don't think I expected for DS

to have to buy Books, etc. Our DD swipes her College ID everywhere and I get a monthly Bill. I guess we're also talking pens, printing paper, printer, not sure what a monitor is for but someone mentioned it, etc. Duh, I think I thought that all came out of their monthly pay. Guess he'll get Coached, let us know, and we'll forward a package out overnight. So, if we send him with the $250 in cash for BCT, how do they pay for the Books and all else required before PW?

Point Guard my apologies...thanks for the question about the books and and everything else...I just want to ensure my DS is prepared as he goes through freshman year...

The thread already has a title. The title box that you are filling in is the title for your post. You can put all of your post in the body area. You do not need to put a secondary title in each post. It can remain blank.

As I said, in the app version of the posts on a phone the secondary title is not visible. If you start a sentence in the title box then continue it in the body, the partial sentence in the body doesn't make any sense.

I am certainly not criticizing, I'm just trying to make sure everyone can see all of your post.

Things have changed since our son went off to USAFA. He didn't take any money at all and he was fine. Everything he bought at the stores on campus (books, paper, cleaning supplies) was just charged against his initial loan and it was paid off through his pay each month. I am not sure of the exact process now so I would trust the advice of more recent parents and follow the instructions to appointees.

At the C store bookstore they are allowed to put the cost of books on their loan. I suppose they can do this all four years. My DD did it her first semester and then went elsewhere for her books. Most classes require that you have all your books on the first day. She did at times have to purchase a book through the C store but was able to return them when her other books were delivered. As long as they were in "new condition" they were accepted without question. If a friend had the same book/class and purchased it already they shared if in different classes. Many of the books for freshman year can be garnered from sophomores (C3C's), they are more than like happy to get rid of them.

Do the C3C's sell their used books to the C4C's? I'd think that there would be a good market for decent used books.

Thanks Stealth, now I understand about the different places to put text! I didn't take it as criticism, we'd all be lost on here for a long time if not for the ladies and gentlemen such as yourself. Now I also understand the Books and Supplies piece for my DS to get started. Its all good, he's counting down the days but having a grand time finishing up HS in fine fashion.

They can only use the loan freshmen year.
