As far as Zach's question goes, up to 10% of the class may be assigned to flight training, although those numbers will probably decrease with the class sizes getting smaller (2016-onward).
And you'll see those number vary each year. The class of 2004 was the first class (at least in recent history, but as far as I could tell, ever) to have the option of going to non-afloat billets.
I think my class had 10 or 12 flight school billets.
I got my third pick, a 210'. I had put in for the two east coast 378's, but one only had a single billet open up, and the other had two or three.
I'm sure the folks who just got their assignments know this, but for others....
You only put units on your dream sheet you want, nothing else. And you have to be reasonable, and honest with yourself. I was happy getting my 210'. I would have been happy with my 10th pick too.
Billet night is stressful and awesome rolled up into one.
