My son is a C4C at USAFA. His birthday is coming up and his mom and I are at a loss for gift ideas. We asked him via email what he would like and the only thing he could come up with was money... and that's fine but we would still like to get him something. We already got a printer and monitor for him as AFA going away gifts. Anyone have any ideas to pass along? Thanks!

Does he like to snow ski? If so, a Colorado ski pass for this coming ski season would be nice.

How much skiing can a C4C hope for?

Is there any chance a C4C can ski (other than from the dorm to the athletic fields during a snowstorm?) As for a gift, we may be in the same spot next year at this time, so we're also curious about suggestions.

    You know...believe it or not...

What I really wanted for my birthday was a slice of my mother's pound cake! She always made that for me for my birthday and I really love it!

Imagine my surprise when I got my mail on my birthday and there was a slip to pickup a box...I went to the window, got my box (it was HUGE) and took it across the terrazo to my room in CS-34.

I opened it up...there's this huge lawn/leaf bag in it and it smells like popcorn (my other most favorite snack food). I open the bag: it's FILLED with freshly popped popcorn, salted the way I like it...and a note: "Dig deeper" it says.

So I did...and I found a block of aluminum foil...wrapped around a pound cake!!!!!:jump1: Mom had made one and shipped it to me; dad "made" the packing material; about 15 gallons of fresh popcorn!:thumb:

Needless to say, my roomies/classmates and I ate well...

I received a B Day pound cake every year for 31 years. It always brought back a great feeling/memory. And at the academy, it was VERY welcome!

    YUMMY!!!

According to upperclassman that post here, 4 digs have the opportunity to ski many times their freshman year. They join the Ski Club that transports members to a ski area on Sundays. We are taking our son's ski clothes up Parent's Weekend as we were told by a skiing upperclassman that those are civies the 4 digs are allowed to have.

That is really cool flieger83. Sounds like a great idea for parents. I wouldn't mind getting something like that for my birthday.

ski passes are good. when you can get out, it's an amazing time.

maybe a nice watch? that's what i got for christmas. wear it every day that i can without tearing it up..

but, money is good too. he doesnt get paid much, so any extra money he may have to save/spend on something fun is good

If his birthday is relatively soon; is it close to labor day? And are you going to parent's weekend? If so; cadet or not, he's still a teenager. A shopping spree at one of the colorado springs or denver malls would probably foot the bill. Sort of like money, but he gets to pick it out with you. If you aren't going to parent's weekend, or his birthday isn't that soon and maybe closer to November; maybe you can do a combination Christmas/birthday present(s).

My son's birthday is in July. He was in BCT during his birthday. And because he just had a "graduation" and "Going away" party from high school and home; cash did seem pretty appropriate. So; all his friends, aunts, grandparents, etc... gave him money. He put it in his bank account at the academy. (They have a branch office in our home town). We also added graduation and birthday money to it but in the form of an IOU not actual cash. After BCT, during parent's weekend, we bought him many of the things he started realizing he wanted. Printer, combination TV/Monitor, watch, camera, etc... later... mike.....

    The ultimate ski pass:

    http://www.snow.com/epicpass/epic-pass-details.aspx

This has been our son's Birthday and Christmas present for the last two years. The ski-with-a-friend passes are really nice for taking friends along to some of the nicer resorts.

Our son's first year at USAFA we got him a nice pair of Sheyden aviation sunglasses, which he still uses.

my bday is less than two weeks away. I just want homemade chocolate chip cookies, and then on PW they'll probably get me a printer and external moniter. I'm completely content with that.

Is there a military price on the epic pass? I know there's the Liberty pass for about $190 which is good for Keystone and A-Basin.

I know it is a chunk of money, which is why the pass is both his birthday present and his Christmas present.

Buffalo, I haven't heard of a military discount on the epic pass.
