Have any candidates for the Class of 2016 received letters from USNA that they are "Board Qualified"? I have seen in previous years that these letters had been sent out prior to LOA's and/or appointments but haven't seen mention of it this year.

Board Qualified means you are "3Q". Candidates need to be 3Q AND have a NOM to be in the running to be offered an appointment. LOA's are typically offered to a small number of applcants very early in the process, don't confuse the two. Everyone will is 3Q will NOT be offered an appointment.

In prior years they used to publish stats on how many were 3Q, but this more recent class summary no longer shows that.

Common misconception. "Board qualified" DOES NOT mean you are "triple qualified" (3Q). "Board qualified" means you are scholastically qualified, which is only one of the "Qs;" the others being medically (DODMERB) and physically (CFA).

As mentioned, you need to be 3Q and on a nomination slate to be eligible to compete for an appointment.

Regardless of the words.....you need to be 3Q AND have a NOM to be considered for an offer of appointment. It sounds like the original question on this thread was more of a hypothetical one vs actually having a letter inhand.

Perhaps it varies from year to year what the actual letter you get from the Academy specifically says and precisely how it is worded. I was referring to our actual experience as well as the comments on various other threads on here that say........

"........Many candidates get letters saying they are scholastically qualified or they are 3 Q'ed. However, some don't."
