Boarded!

Is it typical to receive emails from schools on your list?

It happens, they might even receive an email or two from schools they didn't even list. Once the applicant is boarded, the ROO's can see who has listed their school. Some, not all, will send out an email encouraging the applicant to apply to their school. The ROO's have no pull in regard to the scholarship and the email doesn't really indicate one way or the other if an applicant will receive a scholarship. The ROO's just want to make sure you have applied to the school and if you do receive a scholarship this is their way of recruitment.

It is always a good idea to respond to the emails, even start a dialog with them, should you not receive a scholarship it's always a good idea to have started contact with the ROO's, in case they have any scholarship dollars in their budget for campus scholarships.

+1 to Jcleppe,

Certainly can't hurt as the ROO MAY have some pull with admission if you need some help in getting into a certain school.

I am thinking shoeless was asking this question because Ice stated their DS received multiple emails.

IOWS, more of I haven't received one, thus is it common, and is this a bad sign if I haven't?

Just my read on the question. Could be wrong!

It is a great help to me to have posters such as jcleppe, sherrif3 and pima commenting and sharing their knowledge. Thank you for taking the time to help the rest of us through this process.

Thought I answered that.

To summarize, Some send emails, some don't. It is not a good sign if you get one and it's not a bad sign if you don't. It is just a standard part of recruitment for some ROO's.

My DS is now BOARDED. Just received a couple of emails this morning from ROOs at a couple of schools he listed on his AROTC application. The emails were encouraging him to apply to the school now during early action. I guess this is all a very good sign that positive things are going to happen through AROTC for my son.

It is better than a poke in the eye but not a guarantee of 1.) 4 yr scholarship 2.) admission

Not getting an email does not mean that you didnt get the scholarship or that you wont get into the school. I do agree with Jcleppe (as I almost always do) that it is extremely beneficial for you to reach out to your ROO! They cant help you get national scholarship BUT they possibly may have some sway with college admissions and can help get that 3yr turned into a 3.5 or better yet a 4 yr scholarship.

Ill be honest the most stressful time is those months in between getting the scholarship and getting into your college of choice. Having a connection with your ROO can only help.

Good Luck.

My son met with the ROO's at his top choice schools before the application process started. We toured all the schools and made sure he would be happy with anything on his list. ROO's were very helpful, but I was surprised when they said how few people contact them before the process starts.

Some ROOs contact the applicants even before the boards. They can see who has listed their school on the application and can be of help with the application even BEFORE you are boarded. It really just depends on each individual ROO.

As an example, my son did not receive any contact last year until well after he received scholarship notification. Then he got a letter from two of the three schools he received a scholarship to.

My DS was not awarded until April 1st. VERY Long wait. I highly advise having plan B in place but wait to put deposits down. We were all set to put deposits down but still held out on the scholarship and it finally came. My DS did contact via email the ROO at the schools he was interested in. Not too often but updates on ACT scores or GPA. I don't know if it made a difference but it didn't hurt him.

The hard part is waiting. Make sure you apply to/get accepted to the schools on your list. If you are boarded and find out you are not accepted to one of your picks make sure you change it with CC as they will allow that change once you are boarded.

My son has just received some emails from schools on his AROTC college list. I am hoping this means some things are "shaking loose" as they say.
