What boots are issued at the USNA? I'm in NROTC and the steel toe boots I was issued to wear with my NWUs can't possible be the boots they USNA mids PT with? I participate in Marine PT as well and I was issued Bates 922. Are these the kinds they wear? My pair are in need of replacement. I am considering buying a new pair for NROTC anyways but if I get into USNA and they PT with the same boot I can imagine being use to the pair they issue could help me a lot. (As I now know running in boots and pants is much harder than it looks!)

They used to be Bates but not sure what they are wearing now. Even if you buy another pair you probably won't be able to break out what you have until after Plebe Summer anyways. By then they will be pretty broken in. Take a look at the Sea Trials photos as they are all in boots for that, but as we all know they could issue something different this year.

So is everyone required to wear exactly the same boots? Do they typically last 4 years?

For Plebe Summer they wear what they are issued. After that it varies. For some they will just keep what they have and others might go buy boots they like better. Usually those doing Leatherneck or looking at doing the various screeners will get more boots. If taken care of they scan last 4 years. They will wear them more Plebe Year and in the summer than any other time. They can always get more if they need them at the uniform store. If they want ones that are outside the standard issue then they will need to pay out of pocket. Once they get done with Plebe Summer they will see what they upperclass do and figure out what works for them and/or what is needed.

We are issued both: lighter combat boots for PT and other training evolutions on the yard, and steel toed boots for YP's and summer training in the fleet. Both are Bates and seem to last at least a few years.
