I've applied to both the navy and Air Force summer seminars. However, I've also been selected for boys state and the Air Force and boys state dates interfere with each other. I was just going to ask which is more important and looks better on a resume. Thanks

From what I've seen on this forum, Boys State has more weight, especially if you are selected for a leadership position. Have you looked at USAFA sports camps? Aren't there 2 session of AFASS?

Boys State will be looked on favorably by the academy. USMA considers attendance at Boys State the same as becoming an Eagle Scout.

Go to summer seminar if you have doubts that the academy is where you want to go.

.02 - DS was not selected for NASS but did go to Boys' State. He is still in contact with almost everyone from " his town. " He loved it and it was closer to home than USNA. He came back more organized, clear headed, conversational, responsible, and MOTIVATED. Essentially he came back a grown up which has helped him through this arduous process. Can you get all of that at summer seminar? Possibly and probably - just one mom's opinion. I hope other attendees chime in. Good luck (he attended USNA crew camp the following week to get a taste of the place. Not the same, but tasty enough to seal the deal.

My DS opted for USAFA and USNA SS over Boy's State. We spoke to our ALO and he said both would look good on the application and that neither carried more weight than the other. In the end, he made the choice to see a snap shot of life at a SA and to compare the two schools. We also learned they may keep notes on you while at SS. He got the appointment so it worked out well for him. He also came back impressed with both schools but knew USAFA was his first choice.

My son went to NASS and Boys State. Applied to USAFA summer seminar and wasn't selected. However, he currently has an appointment offer that he accepted to USAFA and an appointment offer to USMA. Haven't yet heard from USNA.
Boys State was an incredible experience for him and he spoke very highly of it. I wouldn't pass that up.

DS also had the same issue last yr. he decided on summer seminar at USMA & USNA. He received appointment to both this month, think if you are strong academically & have strong leadership positions in sports & student gov. you prob don't hv to do boy state? It is a great program but personal choice as to which to attend?

DS, has applied to all three summer seminars and has a nom to boys state. He picked weeks that did not conflict so he wouldn't have to choose. I think they are all great but have heard boys state trumps all.

I also think if you are presented the opportunity to do a CVW at USNA, or one of the similar overnight programs at WP and USAFA, to definitely do it. I was unfortunately not selected for Summer Seminar, and have not yet attended a CVW(only doing this in spring). I have a close friend who attended a CVW and NASS, and he said that CVW gives a very "real" perspective on life at the Academy, because it takes place during the academic year. According to him, it's a much better opportunity to survey what actual classes, activities are like.
