Bring it, or leave it?

With I-day rapidly approaching, I was wondering if I should bring a few extra items to use after BCT.

1.) Watch.
I know we can't have them during BCT, but can right after. Should I bring mine and have them put it in storage?

2.) Wallet.
Our appointee book says we will need ~$250 for spending money. Should I bring it in my wallet with my ID, etc.?

3.) Contacts.
I have an extra pair of glasses to wear, but should I bring out my existing boxes of contacts so I have them, or should I have them sent out?

4.) Cell Phone.
I mostly want this for DDI on 10 July, but after cell phones were lost last year, I'm a little reluctant to bring it.

Thank you.

CadCandMateus is right.

As for snowboard gear, I would wait until Acceptance Day or Parents Weekend to get it, or have it mailed later.

Bring, wait until parents weekend, wait until recognition, or sometime else?

1. It's really your choice on the watch -- DS didn't want to show up with something he wasn't supposed to have so we mailed it to him in his A-day box.
2. He took his wallet with $$ in it, plus his debit card from his USAA account we set up before he left. When there was confusion about how to pay for books we deposited $ in his account at home and he then had the $ to use his debit card.
3. DS doesn't wear glasses so we have no experience but I do remember from last year some basics got to wear contacts for the A-day parade so it probably depends on squadron as to if they'll have access to any extra contacts they brought with them. Personally I'd bring a set of unopened contacts and hope I'd get to wear them for A-day.
4. Bring the cell phone - I think they will have the snafus from last year fixed - DDI last year was a last minute deal so they weren't ready for some of the details; bring charger too so it can be plugged in on DDI. Charge it fully before you turn it in. DS left his with his B&B host (which was his sponsor too) and they dropped it off, fully charged DDI. Then he turned it in after DDI was over.

5. Snow gear -- if parents have room bring it out PW; I wouldn't do it A-day. We brought DS golf clubs PW. We mail a lot of stuff to DS with the priority mail flat rate boxes, but snow gear def won't fit in those boxes. If you do pack mail (UPS, Fed Ex), it's a slightly different mailing address, but your cadet has to pay $2-3 to pick up from pack mail. If we have to ship anything that way we normally ship it to his sponsor's house.

good luck!

Take a pair of contacts with you. If you are used to wearing contacts and not glasses, you will want them back as soon as they will let you.

I remember them saying at orientation that you should bring a pair of contacts and put them in your storage bag so that you can have them right after. So it seems like either way is fine.

The less you bring the better you'll be. Leave the nonessentials such as contacts, snow clothes (there's no point bringing it to basic, since the mountains don't open until about one and half months after PW), and any other conveniences. Bring just what the checklist says, and think long and hard before putting in anything else.
