Bringing sports equipment/contacting club coaches

Hi all,
I play lacrosse at my high school, and I know I definitely want to continue playing at USNA during my time there. That said, I know in the ptr package it says we're allowed to bring some sports equipment (they actually specify that a lacrosse stick is an acceptable item) as long as it's not large and bulky like golf clubs or a bike. But I was wondering, should I also bring some of my other equipment, like cleats, gloves, or helmet?
And my second question,
I know I want to try out for the club lacrosse team during my plebe year. Is it a common thing to contact club sport coaches to make an introduction like one might with a varsity coach? Or is it more informal for club?
Thanks!

Our DS is also bringing a bag of athlete shoes and was wondering the same about if he should contact the coaches ahead of time or wait and see what happens during Plebe summer.

If it can fit in a duffel bag, you're generally fine to bring it. When sports period starts in the summer, your detailers will give you access to your gear.

Feel free to contact any coaches you want, as they will be the best authority on what you will be able to bring or use. It's not inappropriate to contact them. It's their job to bring in the best talent they can, so by contacting them, you're making their job easier.

I can't remember, do they get to do club sports during Plebe Summer sports period? I thought it was only Varsity and then everyone else plays intramurals? And then club sports are during the academic year. Hopefully a current Mid can chime in. If they don't have the club sports in the summer, leave the stick at home and bring it parent's weekend.

I think you're right, NavyHoops. Some club teams do practice, some don't. Rugby does, but lacrosse doesn't.

Either way, bringing a stick and trying out for the varsity level team isn't a bad way to spend sports period until you either make the team or get cut. On days with inclement weather, while the varsity athletes go to practice, the intramural warriors get extra shoe shining instruction.

You will see a lot of lacrosse sticks outside alumni hall at the start of I Day. It is Easy to pick each other out and make fast friends.
