Building up Candidate profile late.

Hello,
I was wondering if it would be wise to use the whole year that I won't be able to apply to any Federal Service Academies like West Point to build up my profile as a candidate. I realized I wanted to go to a military academy in the summer before my senior year. Besides doing very well in all my classes I haven't really got an attractive candidate profile compared to someone that was quite aware of their goal and had four years to prepare themselves. I have been told by my teachers that I should give it a try. Would you say that taking advantage of the two years (Senior year and Freshman year of college) to build myself up as a candidate to these institutions would be a good idea? Thank you for your time and input in advance!

Late Bloomer...

Work on finishing up your application. The sessions have already started, but really consider attending a private prep school.

Apply now. Get yourself on radar for them. Visit schools. I agree chances are better after freshman college if applying late in game

Additionally, I don't see how applying this year is going to hurt you at all. First, it helps you to understand the process. Second, you will seem persistent if you apply for a second time (as opposed to "I did not apply a first time because I did not get in"). Finally, you might get offered a slot at USMAPS or other military colleges.

The main problem is I am not a citizen yet and chances are I won't be for at least a year. What do you think?
