This question is for the folks on here who have seen a few rotations...would it be fair to say, with only one month left before all candidates will receive word of some kind, that the bulk of appointments have been issued? Could anyone give an educated guess, based on years of experience, how many more BBF's(big blue folders) will be on the way to a waiting candidate?

Word is that they are behind due to massive numbers of applicants. Hang in there!

Oops! I just posted the following in the wrong thread (CVW): I heard USNA is on Spring Break next week. Is it safe to assume the folks on the Admissions Board will also be on break?

Anecdotally, I think most folks haven't heard. And spring break is for the students. I doubt CGO gets to take off for spring break.

Kind of curious too...what does it mean "your files goes up?'...and with 17,000 + apps...how do you know that? Just wondering...

There were not 17,000 completed applications to review.

17,000 people clicked on the website and typed in their name and some preliminary information.

My guess is probably half of those actually got a candidate number, and perhaps 5,000 of them actually completed the application.

    real numbers

In my opinion the only useful info. the 17,000 number gives us is that there may be about 20% more candidates full qualified with a nomination than USNA had last year...about 200 more files to seriously consider for appointment than the 2200 last year...that said it also does not appear to me that they are behind, in searching last years threads these same "painfully waiting" discussions were taking place. BUT I am sure someone, somewhere has good intel on how many offers have been made.

shortmom, truth be told I am also a shortmom.
I agree with your logic. In reviewing previous year to year stats, the 3Q'd w/nom numbers are consistent. IMO the 3Q'd w/nom numbers will increase this year, however they will not come close to the numbers mentioned in this thread. Thanks Luigi

The only people who know for certain the actual number of offers that have been made are those in the Admissions Office, and those numbers typically are not released until after the class is filled. I strong suspect that the numbers will be similar to the last previous couple of classes albeit about 15 - 20% higher in most respects EXCEPT the final class strength is pretty well fixed at 1,220 plus or minus 20 to 30 mids. The April 15 target date is to advise candidates whether they still have a chance of being selected for an offer; this is a courtesy to those who no longer are in the running so they can act on their Plan B options. Honestly, most years Admissions is still juggling numbers into late May or mid-June. Patience and persistance are necessary virtues at this time - sorry there really isn't a shortcut through waiting for the "right" envelope. Best wishes to all who are waiting.

grtkidmom...we have 2 things in common then, I am also the mom of a great kid... therefore, wherever our kids end up they will succeed!

I have also often wondered what percentage of candidates/parents of candidates participate in this forum. Any thoughts anybody?

Number of candidates/parents using this forum - Based on questions and responses, it appears there are not many compared to the total number of SA and ROTC candidates/appointments. The total number offered appointments and ROTC scholarships could approach 8-9000. Throw in candidates not offered anything and you have a big number.

It really is too bad more people don't use or know about this site because it is respectful, supportive, informative and helpful. Not to mention the wonderful daily lessons learned in anxiety and stress management!!!! I also wonder if "mailbox stalking" will soon be an olympic sport. :shake:

The % of invested persons participating ...candidates, parents, alums, etc. ...is MINISCULE. Totally anecdotal.

However, that noted, and it's the truth, it does NOT mean there is not credible information to be obtained. There are some very knowledgeable, fair, reasonable folks here, along w/ many who might be deemed otherwise. Discernment and good judgement are essential to panning the gold nuggets on any of these sites.

Wow that would mean that the USNA has an acceptance rate of about 30+%........assuming ~1500 appointments are extended......that would put the USNA as a very mildly competitive school to get into according to Forbes and US N&WR........thanks for that insight and displelling the rumors that the USNA was Ivy League-like competitive.........nowhere close according to these numbers.......more on the competitivness of Kutztown University in Pennsylvania!!!!!!
