Sorry if this is a dumb question. We're trying to complete the uniform measurements. For t-shirt size and boot size, are these both determined in men's sizes, even for females?
    Thanks.

I can't answer your question directly, but at least for the boots, your daughter will get to try on boots that first day and get a pair that fits no matter what she writes on the form. I think they ask everyone for sizes to have an approximate idea of how many of each size to have on hand. I did hear that last year the t-shirts were on the smallish side, so keep that in mind if your daughter likes her shirts loose or close-fitting. If no one else has a definite answer for you, I would bet listing your daughter's size in a man's t-shirt would be the safest thing. They all wear the same t shirts for PT.

all the boot manufacturers make both men and women's sizes. I would guess you would put down your correct size in women's.

From my DD's experience with the t-shirts, they run small. They are generally what I would call a teen size (if there is such an thing). They do come XS-XXL I believe. DD is on the average size(5'6" about 125) but likes clothing to fit. She ordered XS in the white ringer t-shirts(she thought they would be men's sizes too) with the last name on them. She could barely get them over her head (granted she does have kind of a large head:rolleyes:). When she reordered after BCT, she ordered smalls. They are all cotton and have a very tapered appearance to them. They also have very little stretch to them at all. You won't have any trouble with the ABU t-shirts they are like normal t-shirts

I spoke with my DD and the sizes for shirts and boots are women's sizes. My dd is 5'7" and 127 - 133. She wears a small t-shirt.

Thanks so much, kdc246 and usafamomma..just the kind of confirmation I needed! You guys are awesome and so gracious to check with your girls. The last thing the kids should have to deal with is ill-fitting clothes along with everything thrown at them!

Funny story about ill fitting clothes. DD had sized the ABU's and they fit, albeit a little loose (they do that for Jacks Valley). Set them in a pile next to someone else's and they got co-mingled. She ended up with some size 12 pants and some size 14 jackets, she wears a size 8 pants and size 4 jacket . needless to say we have helped her purchase some new ones that fit. It was funny thinking about her running around in clothes that would probably fit her 6' brother.:yllol:

I agree with Stealth! :shake: Sorry, but I can't see a size 12 girl squeezing into a size 8 pants.

Showing my age, but it made me think of the MASH episode where Hawkeye swaps out the other guys(Frank Burns replacement) clothing making him think he has gained weight and lost weight!

I shudder to think the fright in that girls mind as she tried it on without looking at the size tag! That is a nightmare to any girl!

Very true! and at that stage they are too afraid to say anything. They don't want the extra attention.

The cadets were polled earlier this school year about clothing issue and as a result some changes are going to made with how the new classes are issued clothing. Probably the biggest change is that 2016 will not be issued the 100% cotton PC shirts. Instead they will be issued shirts made from a moisture-wicking material. So I don't know how those shirts are going to fit.

Also, make sure to submit that form on time. I waited a while to submit it so instead of getting my PC shirts on I-day I wore the sand ABU undershirts instead. When I was finally issued my PC shirts in the middle of 2nd Beast, I was given mediums, and the PC shirts do fit a little tight. I was about 6'4" and 225 pounds when I inprocessed. I look pretty ridiculous wearing a medium PC shirt.

Moral of the story, submit forms on time.

Thanks Liberator45! That is an interesting update on the PC shirts. I am sure the whole cadet will really appreciate the new shirts.

Thanks Liberator! My daughter got reminder emails for the measurements to be submitted asap, so I'm guessing that they really want to get a jump on ordering the right amounts. BTW for people out there, I tried to submit a scanned copy via email but was told that the version didn't come through and to please fax asap. So it's pretty clear they're moving on these forms as soon as they get them and that faxing is the best option.

I will probably buy a few of the new shirts in a size that actually fits me. But, I will have to make sure I have my class year after my name so I don't get mistaken for a freshman.

    Laundry

Thanks for the funny story about the uniform swap, kdc246!!

I'm glad to hear about the new t-shirts, with a dry-fit technology and a fabric that isn't 100% cotton. Don't cadets send their laundry out (hoping it comes back)? So everything probably gets washed in HOT water, and dried on the HIGH setting in the same huge industrial machines. No wonder uniforms come back a size or two smaller! Although I did see a picture of a cadet ironing in one of the handbooks, and I read something about purchasing an ironing board. . . .

Yes, they will have to learn the skill of ironing. It will pertain mainly to their "Blues" dress shirts. The ABU's are not "supposed" to be ironed, due to the low infra red signature designed into the material which ironing negates. The rest of the dress uniform is dry cleaned and you have to be super careful even touch up ironing it...they usually recommend using a pressing cloth (clean handkerchief) as to avoid damaging the material.
