    I'm part of BCT 2018 Cadre. If you have any questions, I can answer all of them, but I'd be happy to answer the ones I can.

    I have a few random ones.
    What pace/distance should I be aiming for on runs? I am a female in good condition but I'm worried I'll be the one to slow the group down if it's a majority of guys.
    Should I bring blister care or medical items or will that be issued or taken care of by medical staff?
    What exactly should I be expecting when it comes to putting my hair up (when they decide if it needs to be cut or not)?

    Thank you so much for offering your help. As I-day start getting closer, I find myself getting worried about such trivial things!

    I've heard from a 2017 guy that bct will be different from previous years. Without spoiling any surprises, what can you tell us about what changes are being made as well as why they are being made?

    -You should prepare your self for short and long distances in full ABU gear. Each flight will have different preferences as far as distance however 2-5 through woods is average.

    -If your in good shape you shouldn't worry about slowing down the pace. Typically it is a hand full of stocky males that slow down the flight. We will never leave a basic behind as well.

    -You can bring blister care if you like but all medical personnel will be equipped with blister care and will make several rounds to the flight through the course of the day.

    -I don't know the answer to the hair question. I heard it was a certain time limit and if you cant meet it they cut it. I would recommend practicing putting your hair in a bun. PLI 36-2903 has the hair regulations in it google that.

    So boots. Yes or no to bring in them? I've heard mixed reports that we can? I know we get them provided anyways, but if we wanted to bring approved boots is that alright?

    BCT was different for 2017. Their class had the highest retention rate in many years. Your BCT commander made it a point that this will not be the same. BCT will be more physically intense and you will have less breaks than 2017 did. You should be proud of this.

    You can bring them but they must be standardized with the issued boot otherwise you may not be able to wear them. Also I meant to say I can't answer all of them, I'll be happy to answer the ones that I can.

    What advice would you give to the appointees?

    I've been hunting around the internet to answer this question, but to little avail.

    What is the typical day for a basic cadet like, schedule-wise, both in the cadet area as well as in Jack's Valley?

    Also, say if I were to get sage green Nike SFB combat boots, would I not be allowed to wear them until A-day, or until recognition?

    Thanks!

    That is very nice of you Klepto! I'm sure your advice will be very valuable to the appointees fortunate enough to find this thread.:thumb:

    Mental Toughness.

    If you don't have it yet develop it between now and BCT. It doesn't matter how strong or fit you are, you will hit a breaking point some time during BCT and it is the only strength of your mind that will carry you (and teammates). If you can strengthen your mind and conform your body and emotions to your will you will be surprised how far you can push yourself.

    This depends on your squadron/flight, I can almost guarantee they won't let you wear them during BCT. I'm not allowed to release specifics on the schedule. You're always guaranteed three meals and a shower. Between those times you'll have briefings, PT, testing, and courses.

    DD=Dear Daughter
    DS=Dear Son

    Basically a way to shorten these statements. Not sure on DF.

    Not really a question about BCT, but how are you guys chosen to be cadre? Is that a highly sought-after position, or not so much? Either way it is appreciated.

    It's an interview process. It depends on the squadron and the amount of people that are applying out of your squadron. In my squadron there were about 8-10 people applying for second BCT Element leader of which only 4 were chosen. The rest either went to first or didn't get a slot. Most cadets who want to be BCT cadre involve themselves with the training in the previous semesters or have worked BCT before. For firstys there are only 2 flight positions that they can apply for which involves the same process. There are higher level positions that are open to group and wing application which are very competitive.

    Good to know. I suppose I can expect to talk a bit differently to you next month. Thanks for giving us the chance to ask questions, this thread has already been put up on the class of 2018 fb page and appointees seem to be liking it.

    If cadets are stronger in one area over the other, which do you think is valued more/worked more at BCT, core or upper body strength? I play baseball and work legs and core much more than upper body because of my shoulder and my pushups/pullups are not where I would want them to be for BCT compared to running and such. Any tips?

    Seven basic responses

    What are the seven basic responses in order? Several of us have been concerned that the order may change.
    Thanks in advance!

    Shoulders, shoulders, shoulders. The front leaning rest (top of the push-up position) is technically a resting position, so you can be left there indefinitely. Shoot for 5 minutes before you get here.
