Cadre Taking Questions

You will be graded on your 1.5mi time. You can expect longer and shorter distances for training.

What I meant was what is the maximum distance in a single run. I'm not much of a runner so the high volume gets to me and gives me some inflammation and that. I would like to know at what point I can lay off of the distance in favor of speed for the AFT. My first goal is survival (in distance running), but if I'm on par in that respect, my second is excelling (in the 1.5 mile).

It would be a rare day to run more than 5 miles at a time. You may end up running more in a day overall. MY personal opinion - prepare yourself for lots of running in boots. The AFT is a very small part of your overall cadet score and maxing vs. mining will negligibly affect your cadet standing. However, training to distance will inevitably give you some short distance speed. Running in boots is tough on the body. IF you see it as a trade - being relatively injury free in BCT is more advantageous to your long-term standing than your initial AFT score.

Again, my thoughts on it and I was someone who had to go often to get my toes wrapped and suffered from (and always have) from shin splints.

With that in mind I'll build up to 7 miles, which was the original goal to compensate for boots. I guess I was on the right track as it was. Thank you!

I would add that it is probably a good idea to throw in some hills if you don't already.

When preparing for boots, keep in mind that strengthening your legs against shin-splints is a top priority. The chance in running style that boots force on you can and will aggravate existing splints if you have a tendency for them (namely tall, leaner folks).

First off, thank you SO much for taking the time to answer questions for us!!!
I know there are a lot of similar questions on this forum, but I have been wanting to ask for a long time what some people with USAFA experience think of getting into the academy. I promise to keep it short!

GPA: 4.0 (unweighted)
Class Rank: 1 of 249
Sports: Karate for 6 months in 9th grade, played basketball 11th grade, lettered in cross country in 11th grade, and plan to run in cross crountry again in 12th grade.
ACT: 30 Composite, 26 in both science and math, 31 in writing, 33 in reading, 34 in English
Other: C/MSgt in Civil Air Patrol, Flight Sergeant and Drug Demand Reduction Officer in CAP, Singer on worship team and AWANA helper at church and I have worked since December 2012 (about 1.5 years). I have also been accepted to Summer Seminar and am leaving in a couple weeks.

If you can tell me my chances of being accepted, as well as offer any suggestions on how to improve my chances, I would be extremely grateful!
Thanks!

Should probably take this to a different thread (one that isn't for cadre answering questions for the C/O 2018)
