    Hello all,

Has anyone from CA heard anything from admissions yet? I am still on Hold and from CA-11 (San Ramon Valley). I'm hoping some good news comes soon. Even NMMI would be awesome.

Kart27 congratulations! Are you planning on accepting? Flyinfin, good luck to you and your DS! Hopefully both of us get to KP. I wonder if they start from the east and work west when making decisions. Anyone have any insight?

    Usnavy2019,

Thank you! Yes, I am going to accept my appointment. As far as notifications, I'm pretty sure it's a rolling admissions process. Keep checking your portal on the main website! I checked my portal religiously until it said "Principal Fully Qualified". I wish the best of luck to you and hope to see you at Indoc!

Thanks! I'm wondering how many fully qualified people applied from CA. I know they can appoint 19 and the rest go to the NWL. Hopefully there are a decent amount of slots from other states for those on the NWL. Wouldn't it be nice if there were only 19 applicants? ;)

    Hey all,

Great start to the thread! Hopefully we can create a CA subgroup of portal stalkers. Would anyone have any guidance on prep school? I am visiting on April 2 and I want to express to Admissions that I would be very interested in NMMI if I couldn't receive a direct appointment this year. Should I tell them that I would go to NMMI if it meant attending KP or should I phrase it more like a request to be considered for NMMI? Thanks!

CA-45 still waiting haven't heard anything yet, still app on file status. Is having the app on file status a bad sign for my application?

Hope not! DS has the same status in VA.

I am from California. I have a nomination, cleared by DoDMERB, passed the CFA, and I believe I am somewhat of a competitive candidate. My application status still reads 'App on File'. I have been trying to contact USMMA via phone and email. I have yet to hear a response. Should I be worrying?

DS received the BFE yesterday and accepted his appointment. He called admissions last week Tuesday to check on his status and was informed that it had changed to principal. The portal didn't show a change of status until this past Monday.

Hopefully you have called admissions and spoke to someone. They are still reviewing files, my DS (also from CA) called 3 mornings ago to check and they said his file was getting prepped to be reviewed and he should hear something in about 2 weeks.

To shed some light on the later than normal decisions as to acceptance or prep school offers, the admissions office is currently understaffed due to some retirements and folks moving to other jobs, therefore the process is a bit later than normal. My DS is from California and a M/N at KP. To answer the question of USNavy 1019 and others that would be interested in the prep school (NMMI), YES take if offered. My DS went to NMMI and it put him in a great position upon arrival at KP. There are usually 40 sponsored preps that are sent by USMMA. This is their sole prep school. If you maintain a certain GPA and keep out of trouble, you are pretty much guaranteed in to KP. Out of the 40 sponsored preps, about 33 made it to KP. Although my DS loved to hate NMMI, it truly prepared him academically as well as put him in the right mind frame to attend KP. His first year at KP was a bit of a breeze for him and the other preps. They knew the game and how to play it. Academically they were well prepared for the rigorous course set. He maintained a 3.3 throughout (for a SA, those are some decent grades). His fellow preps faired about the same. I would certainly let anyone you can talk to at admissions know that you would be interested in NMMI if offered. They will only offer to those they feel are not quite ready (typically academically) for KP at this point but with a prep experience will be a candidate for the following year.

If one makes it to NMMI, they do have to apply again the following year to KP but NMMI helps the cadet through the process. The only additional thing that the candidate must do is to get a congressional nomination again. In most cases, this is just jumping through some hoops again and due to the commitment of KP to sponsor the prep, the nomination is pretty much a sure thing.

Good luck to all from California, KP is a wonderful experience and fantastic education. It truly is the best kept secret of the SAs.
