Call from my son's Battalion Commander

Inspiring post, NorwichDad. I think the one aspect that makes me feel at home here on SAF is being among so many similarly situated parents who place their kiddos' willingness to serve our nation above their own personal interests.

I agree, this forum is great.

I think many people have fears and associate the military as a higher chance of death than if they were in the corporate world.

It is the perception of most. Although I feel differently. The company I worked for 10 years ago had it's front office on the 94th floor in Tower 1. I was in the back office across the river in Jersey City. I went over there up in the WTC often for meetings. We lost 25% of our company. A lot of really good people. Sad time. Things can change overnight. I know these days there is no safety in inaction. God Bless all these kids in uniform.(even the ones my age)

Most people I know think that these days, the parents are morally obligated to be the financial backstop for the child until age 21 (not age 18), or graduation from undergraduate college if it is within a reasonable amount of time (at most 5 years for our house).

that 5 years number seems to be popular among parents, when i spent 1 1/2 years at a junior college, then moved into a university as a second semester freshmen (for ROTC), my dad was quite irritated to find out he would not be paying tuition for 1 1/2 years at JC and then my room and board for 2 1/2 years at the university, but rather 1 1/2 years of JC tuition followed by 3 1/2 years of room and board. (i pay university tuition) He went on to state he wouldn't pay for any more "extensions" beyond that. Guess he doesn't want me to be a lifelong college student :yllol:
