Calling All Football Fans

Ergo, my "Go Army, Beat AF!!!!!! and then, of course, implied victory of Navy over Army. Then, everyone will be 1-1 and, by the rules, the current owner will retain the trophy

See, if you cheered on Army to win the CIC trophy, I could see it. But for Navy to retain the trophy by default, and not by winning it, that's sad. If air force can't find it in their repertoire to beat army, then I would hope that Army would beat Navy and win the CIC trophy. That's the way you're SUPPOSE to win the trophy. You EARN IT!!!! :thumb:

LOL. You're not attempting to change the rules, are you? If there is a three way tie, the current school retains the trophy. They have earned it on the basis of both their previous and current season. And It would be really dumb on my part not to pull for this occurance, wouldn't it?

Just to pacfify you though, it will be no different than any other season over the past 50 years. Always Army over AF and Navy over both the others.

Uh, Mongo...that last part: "...Always Army over AF and Navy over both the others."

Won't work this year, Navy got beat by AF...so...now it's just up to AF to spank Army and bring the trophy back to a LONG TOO EMPTY trophy case! :thumb:

Please don't try and tell me the rules. I most definitely know what they are. And if you're happy keeping the trophy through a hollow win, because you didn't beat both teams, then that's pretty Navy of you. Of course such a rule is in place. It's a logical rule. When you have only 3 teams in a round robin, a 3 way tie is definitely possible. Hence the reason for the rule. The trophy has to go some place. That's why I said that if air force doesn't beat army, then I hope army beats navy. This way the team that WON the competition against the other 2 teams, would be the rightful owner of the trophy. And if we had played army first and won, and then lost to navy, I would hope that navy beat army so they could rightfully have earned the trophy. But if you're happy and content with an "Administrative" title, then you can definitely have it.

You are soooo right, Christcorp. How could I be so dumb. After Army trounces AF on November 6, I will abandon my alma mater, the team that I have stood faithfully behind for over 50 years, and cheer for Army on December 11 to avoid Navy being in that horrid ""Administrative" title" situation.

"pretty Navy of me"???? Please explain.

Not changing the rules. LOL. Unless there is a category, which I am relatively certain that there is not, for ""Administrative" title", you are creating a new category (ie; changing the rules).

Since the beginning of sports, there have always been rules for tie-breakers. Never known a fan yet who did not pull for his team to take advantage of same. "pretty Navy"??? LOL.

So what's the alternative, Christcorp?

I have to agree with Mongo. Of course he wants the trophy to stay at USNA. What he's saying is not that he wants a "hollow win." what he wants is for no one to EARN IT AWAY from Navy, after they earned it.

We'll ALL know on November 6th, sometime around 1530 eastern time...

Only if Af wins. If Army wins, it will not be decided until December.

I'm not arguing wanting your team to win against another team. Especially our SA rivalries. And if their was no CIC trophy, it wouldn't make a difference. Simply root for the team you want to win. And mongo and navy should be rooting for their team to beat army, no matter what Air Force and army does. That's what supporting your team is all about. Just seems that the conversation took a turn that was beyond the game and rivalries itself.

But no problem. I expect everyone to root for their team. And with a 3 team round robin, there is no other alternative to the CIC trophy, should all 3 teams win one of the games, then the way it is now. Other than having the trophy actually sit at the Pentagon or the president's office in such a rare case where there's no clear winner. But I am not suggesting that. The system the way it is is fine. Just that "Bragging Rights" about having the trophy should be about beating the other 2 teams. Guess what I'm saying is: If air force had the trophy, beat navy, loss to army, army beat navy, and air force "Kept" the trophy.... I wouldn't be bragging about it too much. I'd brag about beating navy, but not about the trophy. Not unless I beat both teams. Then you have true bragging rights. But to each their own.

Christcorp, It's kind of like 'King of the Hill'. Until someone else knocks Navy off by winning two games within a year, Navy has earned the right to remain atop the hill.

A lot of Air Force cadets have been booking flights for the trip to New York. There's a lot of excitement stirring. Once air force beats army, and gets their trophy back where it belongs, the Army/Navy game is going to be a bit "Anti-Climactic".

You should make the trip back east for the game in Michie Stadium. It's a great experience. Don't discount Army quite yet..... they racked up a bunch of point against Tulane who had beat Rutgers. Army gets to play Rutgers this week and a win would be fantastic! By the time AF gets to Michie they will be feeling a bit dejected coming off losses to TCU and Utah ;)

Army/Navy will never be "Anti-Climactic". Both teams could go into the game 0-11 and it would still be exciting.
You should plan a trip to Philly some year - there is nothing quite like it.

After attending 8 A/N games, I have to disagree. When it's 20 degrees out and Army loses 56-12, yeah....it's pretty darn anti-climactic. Or when you go into the game with an 0-12 record against a bowl-bound Navy team...the textbook definition of anti-climax from a FOOTBALL perspective. It's a nice weekend, though.

The pre-game fanfare was much better before Iraq kicked off. Since then, there just hasn't been the materiel available on the Army side for a good show. In 2001, the flyover by Army was huge...at least 4 ships of each of the 4 major airframes. Plus they had an M1A2 and a Bradley outside the stadium, plus a smattering of other stuff like Avengers and a Paladin. Now, we're lucky to get a flyover of 4 ships total, usually something lame like a UH-60 or some National Guard A model Apaches.

Someday, they full-up hooplah will return. Hopefully. Plus, it's still the best matchup in college football, especially the best SA matchup.

America will always care about Army-Navy far more than they care about the CiC Trophy, or any matchup that Air Force plays. It's just the way it is.

This is also due to OSD policy and a little screw up between a couple of 3-stars. I won't go into any more detail than that.

I find it hard to swallow the explanation of a 7-year screwup. Maybe Drum will support it this year. Probably just more National Guard junk.

Ed.: that is a commentary on NG equipment, not on their people.
