They had something similar to those last year. I dont think the jersey was all camo but the helmet and pants were.

    Terrible. Ugliest damn uniforms.

One of these days the generals and other out-of-touch folks in the USMA athletic office will figure out that we all actually hate ACUs. Stupid moon camo.

The problem with Multicam is that it's a proprietary pattern, owned by Crye Precision. The Army couldn't just start producing it.

Now, is it a better pattern? Yes, for many environments. The ACU does have its value, though. The real problem with ACUs is the functionality of the uniform, not the pattern so much. They missed the mark in many areas.

    It'll change soon enough.

    Scoutpilot,
In your opinion, what changes need to be made to the ACU in functionality and in pattern? If the Army told you to make it the best uniform possible, what would be your solution?

What would the uses be of the ACU Pattern? Combat in a gravel pit? the pattern is pretty worthless anywhere else. Then of course there is Velcro everywhere, which ensures that there are always patches laying around on the ground for souvenir hunters etc... (What is the point of Velcro-ing on the US Army and US Flag patch? since not one other country in the world wears this uniform surely it can't be to sterilize the uniform)
This is a dog of a uniform but as Scoutpilot predicts- it'll be history pretty soon IMHO. But I've yet to see anyone in the Army actually get beat up over this flop (which Natick now acknowledges was the worst performing option out of several that it evaluated). What's sad is that no one will get take a hit for this one- just like nobody will take a heat round for replacing the Class A's with the oh so stylish Paul Blart Mall Cop look.

My understanding on the Army football uniform this weekend was that the team voted on it- the Corps was wearing ACUs in the stands as well- a solidarity move I guess. The uniform looked pretty bad IMO. What's the matter with Black & Gold?? One benefit though it was pretty easy to distinguish between the VMI players and the Army players even in the middle of the line..

The cadets wearing the ACUs in the stands also made it easy to distinguish the Cadets from the Keydets.

Despite the vociferous Afghanistan-based criticism of the pattern, it is actually a good pattern for much of Iraq. It works remarkably (surprisingly) well in the semi-arid and irrigated areas, as well as in the cities. ACUs make a guy in the city much harder to see than I ever thought they would.

My gripe is the cut and the needless velcro.

Do the patches rip off easily with the velcro? Like, could you run through the woods and your patch would just come off?

And like mentioned earlier, I don't see why the flag needs to be on velcro as well.

I've exited aircraft at 140 knots and haven't lost a tab or patch yet. Take what you will from that.

Will the Army be transitioned into the new uniform by 2015?

Doubtful. It took almost 4 years to fully field the ACU after it was chosen. No new uniform has been determined.

I see I am out numbered but I like the ACU football uniforms.

Vampsoul - like you, my son was pleased to wear ACU's and boots to the game instead of dress gray and low quarters. Much more comfortable. :thumb:
