Taking my son to tour the academy this summer. Can anyone recommend the best time to visit from their own experiences?

Make sure that you contact USCGA prior to make arrangements. Folks can’t just drive in like civilian colleges, as it is a military base.
 
I don’t know that during the summer there’s a better time than another. I don’t think there are any official admissions events during summer months. However, you may want to have your son contact the admissions officer for your area to see about tour options. Also, if planning on being recruited for a sport, try to contact the coach and arrange a meeting.

There will be summer academic sessions going on from mid May through late July, so there will be activity on campus. Swab summer will be going on from July 1 to mid August, so if your son wants to get a peak at that, it would be a good time to go.

As someone else posted, it is a military base, but it is still basically an open campus. They’ll scan your driver’s licenses at the gate and ask you to state your intentions.

Yes we plan to- Hence why we are planning our visit months in advance. I’m looking more for suggestions on certain dates and cool experiences others who have visited have had.

Thank you so much for your feedback 😊 swab summer seems to be the popular time frame from others I have asked as well.
 
Not completely open: you can't get into dorm at all, classrooms are also restricted without a guide. You can still see many other things, but it's best to arrange a guide of some sort.
