Anyone have any recommendations of where to stay when we take DS to I Day? We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn when we went for CVW. It was nice, but a bit pricey. Getting ready to make reservations, and just thought I would see if anyone had any other recommendations.

We used Hotewire to book our hotel - we're at the Loew's (walking distance) for 84.00 a night

For all the times we have used hotwire, the 4-star hotels have been either the Westin or the Loews. You can go to better bidding to see what the amenities are.

I know the Westin has a pool and the Loews doesn't

Good Luck

Thanks so much for the tip:thumb:! Just booked through hotwire, and got the Westin for $86 a night! I love this forum!! :)

Westin for us as well.....i hope the hotel has stocked up on tissues....

Those are great hotels ... but if you are traveling with extra kids, consider one of the other hotels ... we had a fine time and plenty of space at the Spring Hill Suites ... the beds were decent, they had a welcome package and breakfast was included ... we parked at the stadium for I-Day ... no big deal

Thats good to hear about the Spring Hill Suites, we are booked there for PPW. We are booked at the Country Inn and Suites for I-Day. It also has a complimentary breakfast, though I don't know if it will be ready intime for my son's 630 report time :)

The Loews is certainly conveniently located - but on I-Day, that will not be much of a factor. You will drop your son off in the morning and that will be it. The next time you see him will be for about 30-minutes after the swearing-in ceremony. Then he'll disappear.

All you're going to do on I-Day is walk around the Academy grounds. There really is no big advantage to have a hotel within walking distance. You can save a lot of money by NOT booking a 4-star hotel on West Street.

Besides, the Loews charges for in-room internet. In fact, they charge per computer per day. They also charge $19 for parking per day.

If saving money is an objective, you certainly do not need such a high-end hotel like the Loews or the Westin. The Sheraton (3-and-half stars on Hotwire) is located right next to the Annapolis Mall, tons of eating establishments, free internet, and MUCH cheaper. It is not within walking distance of the Academy but it is VERY near. If you have a car, it will make little difference.

I tend to agree with Memphis :thumb:(again) on not needing a convenient but pricey walking distance hotel for I-day (unless your soon-to-be-plebe has an 0-dark-30 I-Day reporting time and/or you aren't accompanying him/her). We've stayed at the Sheraton many trips, including PPW....nice NAVY friendly staff and free parking....close to mall and eating choices.....less than 10 min drive to Gate 8 and/or Memorial stadium( shuttle bus loading for I-day). Besides, after a few hours in the midstore buying USNA 2014 t-shirts, caps, mugs, key chains, bumper stickers and all other essentials you'll appreciate having your car parked nearby ( shuttle bus to stadium parking every 15 min:biggrin:)

GO NAVY,

Obviously everyone needs to do what is right for them and their budget.

We like the Loews and at 84.00 don't consider it pricey - we have it for two nights, so plan on walking back after drop off and do some work before heading back. And yes, we get free internet there because we've stayed there before.

We enjoy downtown Annapolis much more than the mall (again, our personal preference) - so for us, this option works better.

Best of luck to everyone - enjoy these last few weeks with your child!!!!
