How does it work if you want to apply to two academies?
Would a congressman/senator need to nominate you to both?

You'll do each of the academies applications, then when you interview with mocs they will ask you to rank your choices of academies. The moc will then decide whether or not to nominate you.

Yes, you would need a nomination to each academy.

You're normally asked to rate your academy preferences, so some applicants put Academy #1 as their first choice one one app and maybe Academy #2 as their first choice on another if they are truly divided. Travel on over to the Nominations section of this forum and you can find more information if you're confused.

Yeah. You need to get noms to each. What I did was I switched up my preferences for each academy to each nom source. For Senatorial noms, I did Army, representative nom I did Navy, and for my JROTC nom I did Army. Ended up getting into both, but chose Army.

Keep in mind, though, sometimes they'll ask you if you would take an appointment to your second choice. If they do, say yes. Ended up getting a principal nom to Army from a nom source that I requested Navy from.

I applied to USAFA and USMA and got a nomination for both academies. Usually in the application packet for your congressman/senator, they will ask you to rank the academies. When I went for the interview, I signed up to be interviewed by the Air Force panel and West Point panel. The interview usually lasts 15-20 minutes (I like to talk a lot so I think both of mine actually went over 25 minutes).

I found out two days after the interview that I had a nomination for both academies. Just be aware that you may only get a nomination for one, or none at all (but hopefully you will get at least one!). My advice is to apply for every kind of nomination you can. I even had an interview with my senator's panel for AFA but they wrote me back saying I didn't get the nomination because I already received one from my congressman.

Good luck and I hope that helps!
