Can you believe it?

Unbelievable. My DD desperately needed to retake the SAT. Her score is pretty low. 1200. Studied and ready to go for the Dec. 3rd test date and she gets a call for her nomination interview on, you guessed it, Dec. 3! One day only. No rescheduling.
Of course, she knew this would be the date if she got an interview but that was months ago and didn't put two and two together until now.
I guess she's going to have to hope that her resume is stellar enough to make up for the low scores.

That is unfortunate. The good news is that she has been deemed competitive enough for a nomination interview. Try to schedule the SAT again for the next available date - maybe you can still update scores before the decide whether to appoint her or not.

Did she apply for nom from congressman, and both senators? Which is this interview for?

She applied to both senators and the congressman. We're in California so she didn't expect to hear anything from the senators. With her low scores I am surprised she made it this far. She has a high GPA and several varsity sports and tons of leadership including Girls State so maybe that helped. She'll be happy with prep school if that becomes an option.

I would have her make the call anyway to see if she could reschedule due to SAT. Maybe she can do a phone interview. That is what they do with reapplicants who are at college or kids who go to boarding schools.

I believe the next SAT is in January. That seems too late. The congressman's office made it very clear they were not going to have any other dates. My DD didn't pay close attention. I saw it too but that was two months ago and I though she would do better on the Oct. test and wouldn't have to take it again, Wrong!
Anyway, working on plan b and c. hopefully it won't come to that only because she says she can't see herself in a "civilian" college. ROTC will keep her busy enough, she won't even notice.

Has she considered the senior military colleges? My daughter was the same way - had zero interest in a civilian college. She's now a rat at VMI and just earned a Marine scholarship.

The Citadel and VMI are similar, with the entire school corps of cadets. One of those could be what suits her. The other four SMC's have a mixture of civilian and ROTC, but could also offer her more of what she's looking for.

Ask for a phone interview in the afternoon, after the SAT. It's done all the time.

She would like to apply to several as you mentioned. My concern is they're so pricey! She'll go in with the attitude that she'll earn a scholarship but, as a parent, what if she doesn't get it?

I am not sure if y'all have considered the ACT as well. Some do much better on the ACT than on the SAT! I saw there is an ACT on December 10. Not sure if it is too late to register.

I will definitely check out the next test date. No choice at this point. She has done the ACT numerous times when the old SAT was the only test available. Tried the new SAT and never wanted to go back to the ACT. Too bad. Put a lot of time and money into it and the new SAT hasn't been out very long so this was her chance to improve.

She needs to retake the SAT for West Point, not the congressman at this point...so sign up for January. She needs to slip that into the conversation that she was going to take it that day, but instead will take in Jan and has been prepping like crazy...then draw attn to her stellar grades and leadership.

January 21 is the next SAT date. Results come out 4 weeks later. Can she still add it that late? Her application is done, just waiting for a Nom.

If it were me personally, I would heed Maplerock's advice. I would at least have DD make the phone call. With your daughter's current score, the December test is of utmost importance. The MOC is dealing with high school students. Who takes SAT tests? High school students. It is a reasonable request. It's not like you are asking them to reschedule because you have to go to Aunt Margaret's bday party. :)

If I recall, my DS sent a final SAT score in January (a couple years back) and then called the RC to make sure it was included in the file.

My only concern is that our congressman made it very clear early on that the only interview date, should she get one, would be Dec. 3 so she should have planned ahead and scored better on the October test. In reality, my DD is overwhelmed with dates and timelines that it didn't occur to her or me for that matter. But on paper, she may look flaky. So I moved the test date to January and if her low scores come up then she could say she's retaking them and redirect with other accomplishments as mom3boys mentioned.

Sat is January 21 so new results won't come out until mid Feb. unless SAT picks up their speed. ACT is so much faster. Will definitely be cutting it close.

mid Feb should be enough time to get it to the academy by their end of Feb deadline.
