Cancelling my CVW?

I missed 4 days of school last week with strep. My school also had this Monday off, so I couldn’t immediately get back to catching up. I originally planned on just letting Admissions know that I would no longer be attending my CVW this weekend since my school nixed the visit considering the missed days, but my college advisor and grade chair said to wait just in case. I’ve worked to make up everything I have missed in these two days before I leave tomorrow hoping that the school would reconsider my absence. Apparently, the dean apricated my work ethic because I just got the notification that I’m allowed to go.

However, this means missing two more days of school. This requires having to make up multiple tests (some of which will be final grades for my classes), quizzes, and other large assessments. This weekend is a pretty terrible time to miss because it seems everything is due. We are nearing the end of our academic year (finals are in 3 weeks, AP exams are even closer) and I don’t have time to spare. Thinking about missing additional school right now is giving me crazy anxiety. I’m also missing some other big events in the lives of my friends and family members by going.

On the other hand, I kind of feel like I’m just making excuses. But visiting a college when I need to be at school seems very counterproductive. I’m still recovering both physically and grade-wise, and I don’t want to prevent myself from being able to go to a school like USNA by visiting it.

At the same time, telling admissions I can’t go the day before I’m supposed to show up will definitely be giving me a bad rep. I’m also interested to see what the Academy is all about—a CVW can help me do that. I’m unsure if I’m just lying to myself because of nerves/fears/doubts or if turning down the CVW is the right call.

Also, transportation is not a factor in this for me. Thoughts?

What year are you in school? Missing things with friends and family will be something you have to get used to if you are successful in attending and graduating from a SA.

Can you study while flying/someone else driving you to USNA? Can you take some study materials with you?

If you aren't a senior, you could request another time to attend, but you are right, it's late in the game to cancel.

If you are still under the weather and contagious, cancel, and advise USNA asap. Don't bring germs on the yard, please!!! And, if that is the case, you aren't going to have your file marked in a negative way.

Plenty of candidates never see USNA or attend CVWs and still receive appointments.

I'm a junior. I'm not still sick, just wrecked from being sick for quite a while. But definitely not a threat in terms of bringing germs onto the yard!

I would say go. This is important to your future. Learning to deal with stress, prioritize, and even learning that you can’t get it all done is a core part of USNA life. A CVW is the best thing to get a true look at USNA and day to day life.

I attended CVW in November and you will have tons of time to catch up with your work. As a drag, you'll be attending classes, but generally, I was encouraged to do my homework or read during the classes in the back of the classroom. My mid also spent some time in the library doing work as well and you will be able to work too. I highly recommend bringing your laptop around. I had a really great experience at CVW and used some of my interactions there in my USNA application. Don't cancel!

Reschedule! Are you a junior? These are done in the fall as well for seniors.

And it’s not just “visiting a college.” It’s exploring a lifestyle, culture and a minimum of 9 years of military life.

I would definitely request a fall CVW!
Fall is a much better time to visit and there will be much more going on in the Brigade. If it’s a home football weekend, you can experience that, too. Classes are ending, everyone is studying for finals this weekend, and there aren’t a lot events or sports. (My plebe’s company are being forced to move rooms one last time for slacking off in the eyes of their upper class!)

This is also a great idea! I went in mid-November the day after service selection and it was super cool!
