Candidate Activities Record as a Homeschooler

Hello Service Academy Forums,

As many of you know, the CAR consists of a multitude of small check-able boxes that correlate to various extra curricular activities (ie, NHS, Band, Club VP, etc). As a homeschooled applicant however, very, very few of my extra curricular activities match to the activities described in the CAR. This leaves me only 250 characters in the 'remarks' section to type out almost all of my extra curricular activities.

For example, I am an assistant Tae Kwon Do instructor. There is no box for that in the CAR. I volunteered for a political campaign this past summer. There is no box for that. I started and run my own lawn care business. There is no box for that. I SCUBA dive. No box. Wrote two articles that were published in separate magazines. No box. 400+ community service hours. No box.

So my question is this: Is there anyway I can make the admissions board aware of my unlisted extra curriculars? Is there anything I can do to make my CAR more accurately reflect what I've done/do? I've stuffed the remarks section with as many of my ECs as possible, but it doesn't do them justice and it's so small that not all of them fit.

Ultimately, there may not be anything I can do. But if there is, I'd like to do it!

Thank you for your time,
Jake

Try to get a candidate interview and let the interviewer know about your EC (not done already); upload your resume on the candidate portal (I believe you should be able to do this); send your resume/email to your Regional commander.

That would be perfect. I've already interviewed with my FFR and she has a resume in hand. The subject of my CAR came up when I was talking with my FFR last night actually. She's currently talking with the state coordinator to find out what I can do. I'll give my FFR some time to talk things out, and if nothing changes I'll contact my Regional Commander.

Should I go ahead and upload my resume to the portal in the mean time? The worst they can do is reject it, right?

Yes, upload it now. You should have done that months ago, before nominations came out. You've given yourself and your RC very little time to consider that information in light of trying to figure out who all should get an offer.

Interesting. Previously I refrained from uploading it because the portal spcifically states the things that are acceptable to upload, and a resume or anything even related to ECs were not listed.

I contacted my DC who forwarded my email to the RC. I'll follow what he recommends.

Hoping that following what I thought were the rules didn't cost me an appointment.

Thank you for the advice!
