Candidate Information System (CIS)

questions

does anyone know:

1. I submitted my act scores all along -months ago-on CIS it says none listed. should I give them time or assume they never got there?

2. I already let my School officials know about SOE. Today I put my SOE addresses in my CIS. how long until the SOEs get the email? should I warn them now to be on the lookout or wait a few weeks?

Give them time. They enter data in batches, so it'll show up in the next few weeks or so. If it doesn't, then call.

They should get the emails within a few days.

one more?

the question is about:
Current Studies
Application Instructions

"Current Studies are essential in the evaluation of your qualifications for the Naval Academy. Please list all courses you are currently taking, or are registered for, or plan to register for. If you are a college applicant, you should indicate the courses you are currently taking and the courses you intend to register for in the Fall and Spring semesters prior to entry to the USNA. List Course names and Semester/Term and Mid Term grades or Final grades, if available, below.

Note: If admitted, a final copy of your Official Transcript must be sent to the Naval Academy at the conclusion of your senior year."

so does this mean the classes I plan on taking senior year? if so that how can I put the grades down? Or is this all the classes that I have ever taken-they are already on my transcript.

On all the sections of the application you can click "Application Instructions" for more information. For this part it says you should put next years classes and select"Unknown" for the grade.

CIS Candidate Number Goat Rope

Applied to but was not offered an opportunity to attend NASS. Recognizing that a NASS application serves as a preliminary USNA application, I'm left waiting for an official candidate number and CIS login information.

Last night, "Captain Smith" (not his real name) called my home to express his disappointment that I had not yet completed my application. He strongly encouraged me to get it done within the next couple of days! "I'll be glad to do so Captain. What is my candidate number and what is the login information?". "Don't know son. You'll have to contact Admissions."

Sent 2 emails to admissions requesting the information-- don't want to keep "Captain Smith" waiting. Thus far, the courtesy of a reply has not been received.

Called admissions, who confirmed "Yes, you're an official candidate". I was also told "No, I can't tell you your candidate number." and "No, you can't speak with "Captain Smith", in fact I don't know who that is."

Wow. Compared to the NROTC on line application process, the USNA on line application is shaping up to be a Goat Rope.

Has anyone else received a pseudo butt chewing by a "Captain Smith" for failing to log on and complete the on line application? Even though i'm unable to comply? And why the secrecy and the delay in sharing candidate numbers and CIS login details?

DD received her letter on June 2. We live in Alaska. Letter was dated May 16. CIS worked fine, except for some time it was down for an update.

Run5K,

It sounds as if "Captain Smith" is a Blue & Gold Officer and not directly in Admissions, thus that is why the person in Admissions "didn't know who that was." I also am not sure why any BGO, at this stage in the cycle, is mandating that you complete any part of your application within the next few days. The goal should be by early to mid August if you want a shot at being one of the first few to be reviewed.

I am scratching my head at this...

Thanks Jadler. I too suspected that "Captain Smith" was a BGO, though he didn't introduce himself as such. I want to stay on his good side while meeting his expectations. Unfortunately, I simply can't complete the app without login support from admissions. Could a BGO actually know less about the admissions timeline than I?

cited, arrested, convicted

The question on the form:
Have you ever been cited, arrested, convicted or fined for any
violation of any law or ordinance? If Yes, complete
the section below.

Given the statement below-is that considered being cited?
This was what I wrote, does it sound too awful?

On November 15, 2011, at approximately 10:00 p.m., I was driving home from team practice. At that time, I received a citation for driving 73 m.p.h. in a 55 m.p.h. zone on a highway. I appeared in municipal court, and was required to take a defensive driving class, which I completed. I was placed on supervision until July 17, 2012, There will be no record and no conviction once supervision is complete on July 17, 2012. This is the only incident that I have had regarding a traffic violation.

As an attorney who prosecutes municipal traffic citations, I think that sounds fine. You are letting them know what is important: what happened, when, where you coming from/going to, the disposition and status of the matter legally, and that there have never been any other traffic violations/citations. The point is that you've disclosed, i.e. you're clearly not hiding anything, you're making a good faith effort here to be open and honest. If they want to find out more, I think they will let you know. If you have a copy of the ticket or any documentation of the court proceeding or your supervision, I'd make sure you have them handy just in case USNA follows up. Make sure whatever you submit matches up with that as well (if you say you were driving home at 10pm in your app, and then ticket says 2:15 a.m., that would probably not be good!). Good luck!

I personally think you are a little too descriptive.
I don't think you need to include the time of the incident, that it happened after sports practice, and the specific speed. If USNA really wants to know how fast you were traveling, they will ask. If you were driving extremely too fast, you would have been charged with reckless endagerment/driving or something along those lines.

As long as you state that you received a citation and the outcome, you should be okay.

For the CAR, in the non-athletic activities section, if we are a member but not an officer do we select nothing (not N/A, just leave it completely blank), or select representative/committee chairperson?

I got my letter today. I went to login and typed in the inital login which worked. Then, i typed in my name, ssn, and candidate number and said "no records returned." It's frustrating.

I would call the CGO. Something is probably recorded wrong in your file (SSN or Name). The number is on the letter I think.

Another question, should our guidance counselors put our candidate numbers on our transcripts?

Regarding the BGO and getting in an early app... DS had a similar situation. He has exchanged several emails over the last few months with his BGO since meeting him at Academy Night (and he is a very nice man, I might add). After letting him know he was accepted to NASS, his BGO made the suggestion that he complete his application prior to arriving at NASS. I was a little puzzled by this, as it was simply not possible given the fact that he did not receive his notice of official candidacy and log-in until 3 days before leaving for NASS. Perhaps since the application has gone completely online some of the BGO's are not fully aware of that step in the process?

Well, actually, almost all of the online application could probably be completed in a day or two. The only items that might take longer are the school profile, the teacher recommendations, and the BGO evaluation (depends on how long it takes those people to complete those) and the transcript, (depends on how fast the mail travels).

However, I would recommend taking your time and making sure everything is correct and the essay is the best essay possible. At this point there is really no hurry. I had my application done in early September, and it worked out fine for me.
