Candidate Kit Instructions and ALO?

Should I have received something in the mail after filling out the precandidate questionnaire? Cause I received pretty much nothing.

After you fill out the questionnaire, the Academy reviews your file to see if you will be "competitive." After that, they should have sent you various letters telling you what you still have left to do. Even if you are not competitive, they should have still sent you something.

Hmm thats strange. Maybe my dad threw it out. He wasn't exactly enthusiastic when I applied.

If all else fails, just go to Academyadmissions.com, there you can find a link for the online application. To access your candidate portal, all you need is your SSN and your birhtday, no candidate number or anything like that. Give that a try.

At the moment my status shows me as a prospect for the Air Force Academy. So I'm assuming my application hasn't been looked at. Also, since I'm just a prospect I don't think I'm able to log into DODMERB yet because it says that there is no matching social security number and birth date.

The 4 stages (3 that you see online) are Prospect; Applicant; Candidate; then cadet/appointee. Keep getting your ducks lined up. Your 1st priority on Monday is to FIND and SPEAK with your ALO. If that means calling down to the academy to your counselor, then do it. Don't worry about what anything says online. You need your ALO to help organize and arrange everything so you can get it all done in time. Remember, your ALO has to recommend you. Impress him/her!!! Remember; an ALO can't get you into the academy. No matter how much they want to. But they sure can keep you out of the academy if they don't think you're a good match. And with 9,000 -10,000 applicants each year, the academy won't think twice about questioning an ALO's negative recommendation. Not unless you're an uber top 10 athlete in the country and you have an academy coach fighting for you. But then, if you were, we wouldn't be having these worries. You can do it. But it has to be your #1 priority right now. good luck.... mike....

Thanks for all your help everyone. You all pretty much saved the day for me.

When does it switch to appointee. Right now it says Candidate and Appointment Accepted.

i never understood the ranking thing. I am a "candidate". does that mean I am good enough, and haven't finished my stuff yet (need my teacher to send in the evaluation) so I cant receive an appointment?

As I mentioned; you only see 3. Prospect; applicant; and candidate. When you see appointment offered and appointment accepted, the academy has a status that says you are an appointee. Basically that you have accepted the appointment. You will just see candidate and appointment offered or accepted. later... mike....

Candidate means that you have the potential to be offered an appointment. It is the Academy's way of telling you to go forward with the application process. Best of luck to you.
