Candidate portal change?

I honestly can't say whether or not this is a good sign. Last week, my DS received his first nomination in the mail and checked the portal that afternoon. His nomination was not posted (and as of 1 hour ago - still not posted), but the medical status changed the day he received the nomination. All I can think is that there are so many applications out there that, on a rolling basis, some applicants get their medical status changed while others have not. It is however, good to know that, if posted, you are DoDMERB qualified! One of the the holy trinity (pardon the pun) - DoDMERB qualified, CFA qualified & nomination in hand!

I'm confident the nomination status will change soon. From my experience,my portal changed at different times as well. First my medical changed (showed up as qualified) and then my nom appeared a couple of days later.

DS just hear from his MOC..received both nominations to AFA and USMA...his portal changed a few days ago so who knows what it means...

Keep in mind that although MOC and SEN work closely with UMSA, they are separate entities. They are not in the same office. Some MOC and SEN offices can be very quick in notifying USMA while others take their time. There is no need to worry about portal changes. These changes occur when the RC's secretaries enter information. Each RC is in charge of ten states. Each RC has two secretaries. You can do the math. There is a lot more information coming in then going out. Be patient.

My noms appeared before the medical qualification. Does anybody who has been appointed have an idea as to when the dental directions will become available?

I received a nomination from my Senator 5 days ago. My portal still hasn't been updated either. I'm assuming it's because all of the workers are home for the holidays and taking care of personal priorities. If I don't see it updated by January, I'll be worried :S

DeeVaughan, my Liason tells me that information should come early in the new year. Once most of the slots they are not saving for the "heavy hitters" are filled. By saying "heavy hitters", I am referring to the guys and gals who will find out Yale or Harvard will not pay for their tuition, and mom and pops do not have the money to send them, so they suck it up, weigh the service obligation, and decide they can do the 5 years active committment for a free education. They usually come late in the game.. USMA recognizes this.

You said that USMA is saving slots for "heavy hitters" who got turned down by Yale, but I thought USMA is trying to discourage those individuals from applying because they'll end up "five-and-flying." In my mind, I would think that West Point would rather have a less-qualified applicant who will contribute their whole career to the Army than a more-qualified applicant who will probably leave the service once their commitment is up.

Well my friend you certainly are not giving enough notariety to the prestige of the United States Army. Lets think as adults here. In reference to you "less qualified" comment, every cadet is fully qualified, and in essence, just as qualified as the Yale, Harvard, or Stanford student. USMA does not "need" any one person persay, an does not have a set amount of cadetships they must fill, so that less qualified would most likely not receive appointment. Remember West Point is also viewed as a college, a college seeking top prospects, and I am willing to bet that USMA did not make Forbes Top 3 Colleges by letting in less qualified candidates. Better to have a true leader serve for 8 years and call it quits, then a joe schmoe serve 30 and barely contribute. Long story short, USMA is in competition like any other college, they want bright students.

FYI I did not have Harvard or Yale grades ( actually far from it) like a heavy hitter but I was offered an appointment back in November.
