Hi
What is CVW? The web site says depending on the level of completion of your application you may get invited for the CVW.

Can any one knowledgeable about this please tell us more? What to expect etc..

I know this does not mean you are special, just that you have completed certain level of the application process. The candidate gets to spend a weekend with the ? Plebes [2019]?

What about the parents do they go with the candidates as well?

If any of you have any information or have attended this before please share your experience.

Thanks.

Oops .. I just saw a similar thread posted just before me. So never mind got the answer, will look at old threads.. :)

The CVW is stands for Candidate Visit Weekend. It's a chance for candidates to get an idea of the life of a midshipman during the accademic year. I've seen people say that it's a lot different from summer seminar because the whole brigade is there. You basically arrive on Thursday evening, get assigned to a plebe, and they drag you until Saturday morning. I recently got an email to sign up for it and invitations were given out on a first come first serve basis. In order to be considered as a candidate in the first place you had to fill out the preliminary application for the Academy at the very least. They had four upcoming weekends that you could choose from. I signed up on Friday and received an email today that it was confirmed so it was a pretty simple process. However, I'm not sure if there are any more open spots.

@sctm
Thanks. My son has signed up for the September spot. And we as parents will also be attending the parents portion of the event.

shut we bring any snacks or anything for the midshipmen we will be staying with? i remember reading a post not so long ago saying how we should get like some candy for the midshipmen we are bunking with

USMAHopeful97, you asked this question in another threat about a week ago and NavyHoops provided you a pretty good answer. Was there something not addressed?

Does anyone know if it possible to do the CFA during the CVW? I know this is something that occurs at the academy during summer seminar, but didn't know if was possible to have someone conduct it during a CVW.

I brought some cookies for the mids when I went. They said no drag had ever given them cookies before and were really excited to get them. It was the least I could do to thank them for a great weekend!

DS loved the CVW. He took a box of pop tarts to his mid. He went in February, and from what I understand is called "the dark ages". Perfect. They were done with Plebe Summer and it is supposed to be the dullest or saddest part of the year, but he said it was great. His mid took him to class, took him to study group, played video games with him. He thought it was great. You'll love it. Things he noted: don't wear ROTC stuff, don't wear your varsity jacket, don't act like you know it all. Ask questions, get to know what life is like at the academy.

Take this for what it is worth. It's one kid's view through his dad, and that kid is also a candidate like you, so he has no knowledge beyond what he observed and heard.
