Candidate Visit Weekend?

Greetings,

I've applied to USNA 2 times, this is the 3rd time that I am applying and as a sophomore in college, I received notice that I am invited to the candidate visit weekend. Out of curiousity, will this help me in terms of admissions if I attend, or was this simply a blanket invitation to all official candidates? I am 20 years old and just want to get to the Academy, regardless if I have to go through NAPS, I just want to go to USNA.

It isn't a "leg up" in the admissions process but it's a great opportunity for you to gain new insight into life at USNA. I commend you on continuing your pursuit and suggest you go. Good luck-hopefully 3rd time is the charm.

They don't send out "blanket" invitations to all candidates.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I heard that your host plebe is required to write an evaluation of your visit. I don't know what happens to this report or whether admissions looks at it. Perhaps it is just a leadership exercise for the plebe.

DS got an invitation today as well. When he went online to register for the CVW from the link included in the email, the form states that CVW's are only for rising juniors and seniors. You have to choose one to complete the form. How have other reapplicants handled this as the email asks that you not contact the office?

OP, it won't help in with any admissions points. If its feasible and something you can swing with schedule and money then it might be worth the visit. You are now older, more mature, more knowledgeable so your view of USNA will be different then when you first applied. It might be worth your time to come check it out and make sure this is still the place for you. I congratulate in your pursuit for a 3rd try. That is tough road and one that many never try. That determination and perseverance are great attributes to a Naval officer. Best of luck.

Hopeful 97, some go to both. This comes up every year. You can request one. The bottom line is what would you gain from it? Just because it is fun or cool, isn't a good reason. If its because you are on the fence still selecting between schools, then it could worth the time and money. I am not sure where you are from and your travel requirements. Remember senior year is going to cost a ton of $. That is obviously between you and the parental units, but something to consider as you line up Plan B and C, application costs, graduation costs, future college costs, etc.
