Candidates: Before you accept your nomination, think about Paul

Scout is a very good writer and is spot on. I put emphasis on the part that this is not about you. Officership is foremost serving - not yourself, but what you are entrusted with. That is the responsibility to see to the needs of your soldiers and to accomplish the mission come what may. It's easy to be hooah when you're well rested, well fed, and sitting in the shade on a nice day. It's harder to be hooah when you're dead tired, marching through the rain and freezing. It's hardest to keep motivated when the IEDs go off and the RPGs and bullets fly at you every day. Keep in your mind when things get tough and you're jumping through hoops it's for a reason - even if you can't see it. Before I throw myself a pity party over how my current situation sucks I like to remind myself that soldiers and are dying almost every day in Afghanistan and now I've volunteered to place that mission and their well bearing above my own.

Every soldier is entitled to outstanding leadership. I must provide that leadership. And to accomplish that goal I must be developed with both the big and little picture in mind.

I look forward to seeing you on R Day, it will be fun - the Army way

Thank you all for your kind thoughts.

A toast to Paul...

Scout-
Is he buried at WP? The picture looks like the WP cemetery.

Great American, Great Soldier. Thanks to Capt Pena for the sacrifice you made, and God Bless your family.

The video was hard to watch. It was certainly a reality check for those of us who have children who are contemplating or have already committed to military service.
Thanks for posting.
