Soon I will be leaving for my CVW and the Naval Academy. I was invited to attend summer seminar but could not because of conflict with boys state and the other two academy seminars. Specifically, I was wondering if any people who previously did a CVW at USNA could give me some tips. What you wished you would've packed; etc.? Will I get the option upon arrival to match up with a cadet of a certain major, and what year will the cadet most likely be? Also as far as meals and other things go will I be treated like summer seminar attendees were or as a guest?
If someone could fill in some extra details fro me that would be great.

I haven't done a CVW, but as I have no idea where you're from, I would warn you about the weather. We're supposed to be having highs around 50, so make sure you bring warm clothes to dress accordingly.

You'll almost certainly be paired with a plebe. You'll be treated like a normal person (no plebe rates...yet). You won't be forced to participate in any plebe activities, but you can if you want to have the full plebe experience.

Aren't those "grey skies" supposed to be as one of the two colors of the bucks?:rolleyes::shake:

Pennsylvania skies are nearly always blue and white!

    Enjoy your CVW! You will!:thumb:

You're unlikely to run into any of these at USNA - the place is full of Midshipmen however.

For the most part you'll be treated as a guest. Your plebe will do all his normal plebe stuff and you'll be looking on. Participate when appropriate - it should be obvious when to and when not to.

Ask a lot of questions but do your homework about NA first.

    CVW

Is an invitation to a CVW a very strong sign of the academt's interest or something that is good to experience, but not an indicator of anything else?

    I second this.

Anyways, I went to a CVW and I recommend participating in everything you can, like you said you will. Dress nice. Be polite. Ask questions, a lot. If you bring what the list says, you'll be fine. Most people didn't need swim wear, but my company did so it wouldn't hurt to bring. Enjoy!

IMHO opinion it is a good sign to receive an overnight visit without requesting one. Not sure what is means if you request one and get it -- I would imagine there is some interest there too! Definitely not a done deal by any means -- until you receive the BFE nothing is a done deal.

I know that my DS received an overnight visit to WP and was told that only 30 people in the whole NE received an overnight visit to there this year.

We are taking our DS to a CVW at the USNA tomorrow -- he just received his BFE yesterday -- so this will be an important time for him to evaluate the Naval Academy prior to making his decision.

Be prepared to be flexible. This weekend is different than most, because we have winter trials Saturday, and no one has told us anything about what we will be doing with our drags...

Should the candidates bring anything different to be prepared to be flexible? My DS is not planning on bringing his swimsuit even though instructions recommend he does.

Good job Dad. He may not need it or use it but he wouldn't want anyone there asking that question!

No, disregard what I said. We were told today that candidates aren't allowed to participate or observe in winter trials.

DD had LOA but no CVW. Asked through BGO and got a date for CVW. She loved the weekend. Drag bearing gifts (choclate chip cookies) is always welcome.:shake:
