Hey all! I'm very interested in doing something service-wise before I enter the military, and I'm not sure if both will fit into my schedule. Out of curiosity, do you know how junior firefighting is perceived by admissions? Does it just fall into the community service category, or is it looked at as more than that?

Junior Firefighting sounds fun and should count as community service
That's all I could tell you cause it's not offered in my town.

Not sure how admissions looks at them but I am a part of both and they both are more valuable then a check on a application. I've learned lessons that will be with me for the rest of my life.

Put in the effort and shift around your schedule. It will be worth it

CAP. CAP. CAP. I did Civil Air Patrol---best decision I made. Helped tremendously with my application.
Invaluable experience. PM me if you want to know more. I got appointed to two academies, CAP helps a lot.

I did both. CAP is an actual option on the application and junior firefighting is not, so I would guess that CAP weighs a bit more. Plus CAP could help you get more connections and prepare you for the academies in terms of drill and military knowledge.

As for junior firefighting, I enjoyed it but honestly I feel like I got a lot more out of CAP. I feel like CAP helped my application a lot more because the training in it was useful and I could report my promotions and awards to the academies.

Good luck!
