    Hi there!!

I understand that many mids purchase cars when they sign on for 2c year and 5 years. What type of car do mids tend to buy?? Do certain students need to worry about a car being too show-offy?

    Thanks so much!!!!

"Midstangs," Camaros, and impractically large trucks are all popular options. A lot of people also just drive what they did in high school or buy decent used cars. You don't need to worry about being too "show offy."

Don't forget your "USNA [class year]" or "NAVY [class year]" vanity license plate!

Hurricane is right, there is a full range of vehicles driven by mids from high end luxury cars to some huge trucks and everything in between. We had guys with BMWs, Corvettes, and other expensive vehicles. And yes, alot of mids do purchase vehicles with these loans, while some drive the cars they had in high school. To be honest, that loan is a nice thing and the more economical you are with it and invest early the better off you will be down the road. You will move alot in the first few years of active duty, especially pilots. A vehicle that is reliable, has good gas mileage, and can haul your stuff around is probably the best bet.

Very few "Jet Jockeys" Many more Marine and a lot of SWO with some great cars in the firsty parking with low loan discount. Believe me most hate the vanity plate. Have one and MID hates it. Audi, BMW and others "sport" makes are popular choices. Lots of corvettes and Big Big Trucks.

Many likely have parents who help pick up the tab for the pricey car ... and the pricey insurance for a 20-21-year old sole driver. Our Mid ... a 2nd class ... bought a great used car (Mazda 3 Sport/Touring) with less than 40K miles ... got a good deal, and it does help establish his credit. The problem with buying a Camaro, Corvette or a convertable v-8 Mustang (our guy's first choice) is MD and DC get SNOW ... those from warmer climes need to know all those cars, and many rear-wheel drive mega trucks -- are useless in a northern winter ... the insurance cost difference is more than $1,500 per year ...
