Career Goals

Typical of the superficial articles you see in USA today. If you don't know anything about service academies, articles like that can be VERY misleading. It should contain a disclaimer like "yes, tuition is free ........BUT.....there is a lot more to this you need to investigate".

I would imagine those who only attend a service academy for the 'free tuition' are probably more likely to not make it through all 4 years. Going into this, your main focus needs to be on joining the military and all that brings. Yes, some do not serve their entire career in the military, but going into this, you need to fully understand what you are signing up for and will be expected to do.

Ugh, I can't stand USA Today---it's "News Lite."

The article was written by a college student if I interpret this correctly: Madison Mills works for USA TODAY College while studying broadcast journalism at University of Southern California.

Typical mindset of most people that SAs are first and foremost a free education.

^^ Exactly my point. Without the proper context, such comparisons are meaningless and shows the author has no real grasp of service academies.

The only time USA Today is my source for "news" is when I'm sitting in a Hampton Inn eating a bagel and drinking a cup of coffee and there's nothing else to read because I've already read the 2-day old newspaper that I brought from home.

I am delighted that USNA did not make the cut. Evidently, there was no question, even for clueless reporters, that it was a military officer hatchery.
