Cash Needed?

Our son reported with his paperwork, his wallet, his glasses, and the clothes on his back. Literally.....that was it. Even the spare clothes that he wore flying to COS the day before were left at his sponsor's house.

The Air Force provided everything he needed for four years at USAFA. He is still alive and well.

Don't overthink what you might need. This isn't your normal college.

Another note on Rodeo Day. That is a very recently added event to BCT and only in the last year or two has it happened. Don't count on it being the same or even happening again. Things change and you need to be ready for anything.

Other than the paperwork . . .

Besides cash or debit card.
Are there any last minute suggestions of what to bring?
The threads that are coming up on search are with Annapolis and West Point.
Can someone please post the latest list of what to bring besides what's in the appointee instructions specific to Colorado Springs.
Thanks.

I'm assuming you're not asking about the paperwork list in the Appointee Instructions (+ several medical forms, SGLI, shot records, Emergency Data, travel receipts). For some there was a question about the Tattoo form. Are you sure they received it? If not, bring a copy.

Another Mom/Dad on the forum suggested highlighting all the entries on the SF86 to make it easier for your DD/DS to transcribe the information to a computer. I thought that was a great idea.

Otherwise, some small additions:
DD/DS should know their bank account and routing #s, as they will probably fill out direct deposit forms and/or travel reimbursement to go to their account.

DD/DS should also know their own cadet address (duh), but they will be nervous.

Retainer, if you have one.
Black strap, if you wear eye glasses.
Stationery or plain cards with stamps already on them.
Cell phone charger (mentioned on another thread)
Know mileage from home to airport, if USAFA did not pay for airfare for DD/DS.

Another Mom/Dad on the forum suggested putting toiletries in ziplocks. Another great idea.

We don't plan on sending DS with cleats on I Day, as it just makes the backpack heavier, and we doubt they'll be used much if at all. We do plan on bringing his cleats on A Day.

I hope this helps.

A new, unopened pair of contact lenses for Acceptance Day if you wear them. Definitely bring your cell phone and charger - it has all your contact numbers of which many you will want to call on Doolie Day In or Out (whatever they call it this year). Plus you can take a self-photo of yourself on that day to send to your parents. Otherwise, jot the phone numbers down and put in your wallet, because alot of people don't have phone numbers memorized nowdays with cell phones storing numbers for you. Also, our cadet took black compression shorts and was able to wear them (and was very glad to wear them).

Basics are permitted to bring a Bible -- if that is important to them. For some, it provides a connection to home -- for others it is not important or is just extra weight. I think I read somewhere this year that Basics, who want one, can pick up a Bible during Basic at the Academy -- I'm sure, if offered, that will be explained to Basics when appropriate. As noted on this and other threads, females are required to bring more than males/plan accordingly for those extra items/weight -- including underwear, sports bras and ties, clips, bobbie pins, etc. for putting up hair (if going with a bun).

Thanks to all who have responded with tips and wise counsel.
Less is more and I feel that the few days before flying into Colorado Springs
shall be best spent enjoying time with family and friends.
Locked, loaded and ready to go.

Can't think of what you're need on Day-1. The clothes on your back. A toiletry kit for teeth, shaving, showering. Most of all; a COPY of every piece of paperwork that you did during the entire process. (Copy... Leave another copy at home). Especially immunization/medical records/info. Of course, other paperwork already listed like birth certificate/passport/etc... Basically, you don't need to bring anything. Cash, wallet, ID, etc... is already mentioned.

I think the instructions are pretty accurate. There isn't really anything special you need. If you have all your paperwork and you money; then whatever you don't have, you can buy.

For form SF86, someone posted that it still has to be put in the computer on I-day. Do I still submit the 120 pages or do they go to the shredder or am I to keep it?
