I just did an overnight visit and was at SLS last summer too. Cell Phone reception in the barracks is horrible!!

Anyone know of a good provider or a good phone that allows for better service?

    Thanks!

What provider do you have so I know not to look into that one?

The service is terrible for all providers in the barracks since it has less to do with coverage and more to do with the giant stone walls surrounding you. I have Verizon and it has served me well.

I heard that the cadets stick their heads out the window. Don't know if that actually helps a little or not.

Don't the rooms have a telephone line anyways?

All Cadets have a land line and *free* unlimited long distance.

Yes, or leave your cell phone on the windowsill and use bluetooth or go outside.

Sticking your head out the window is the difference between 0-2 and 2-3 bars for me. I can also get 6 bars if I leave the cadet area.

    Some info on AT&T:

When there with my son a few times, noted that 3G service is almost non-existent - with Nokia and iPhone 3Gs. EDGE data access is fine out in the open, but almost nothing inside many of the buildings if away from windows. Also, no public WiFi access for smartphones or laptops; not even in the Library. Not sure if there might be hidden/secure Wi-Fi. Library did have Ethernet jacks at the study tables.

Call and Text capability was just OK. I don't recall missing any texts or calls while around the various places, but call quality was much better while outside or near windows when inside.
