I'm a CC and I was wondering what cell phone company has the best service at West Point. I currently am on Verizon, but if a different company has better service I have no issue switching.

My son has AT&T and is satisfied with the service. Camp Buckner is a problem for all carriers.

DD has Sprint and has no problem using massive amounts of data each month. She doesn't use many of her available unlimited minutes though lol. From what I understand an improvement in a nearby cell tower last year greatly improved what had been poor reception by several carriers, Sprint being one of the improved service providers.

DS used Sprint in 2011 & 2012, and it worked OK. Not great, but OK. He was able to find the magic spot in his room, which is what most do.

ATT used to have a bit of advantage near the barracks, but with the changes DS and others saw sprint & verizon much improved. Now it appears to be more variable based on where their room is rather than carriers. Granite & steel walls causes problems for cellphone frequencies.

Over toward Buckner verizon seems to have the edge, with sprint a close second. And they will roam to each other's towers if completely out of range of the other. Which sometimes helps, othertimes not. DS went to Verizon as it seemed to have the best mix of coverage including West of the main post (buckner, etc) and has been pleased.

Past years a plebe it will really be how it works in your room that matters most, can't really use them much elsewhere until you get away from the barracks/plain/wash hall, etc.

... except when the cell tower topples over on the barracks roof, which I believe happened a couple of times during severe nor'easters this past winter... :rant2:

But they had it righted within a day each time and rumor has it the mounts are now strengthened.

DS uses Verizon with mostly very good results.

Generally speaking all carriers get decent service in/around the barracks area.

There are no cell towers on any barracks roof tops. Within every barracks, however, there are cell signal amplifiers that, when functional, allow nearly everyone to have excellent service in the barracks.
