Hey forum folk. I really need some help here with the CFA. I've always considered myself fairly well qualified, in fact, overqualified in some areas for WP. It's been my dream since grade six. However, after 3 years of HS football and just starting year 2 of distance team for track and field, I find myself in a predicament. I'm about 5 foot 10 and I weigh 182 lb. I've been on 2 eating plans, I work out almost daily, but no drop in weight in nearly 3 months. What am I doing wrong? I supplement track with crossfit to work my arms and whatnot. I can barely do 3 pull-ups at the moment. I can most likely meet all the other averages, but what am I doing wrong? I'm not fat, but I'm not made of pure muscle either. What should I do along with track and crossfit in order to best improve my CFA scores and LOSE WEIGHT. Thank you so much!

Accepted to USMA, USNA, USAFA summer programs. Attending the first two. Invited and attending USNA CVW in March.

Your weight is a lesser concern as if you don't meet the height/weight, you just have to meet the body fat standard.

As for pull up, search it on the forum as there were some good work outs posted. How many pull ups were you able to do six months ago.

6 months ago I couldn't do any pull ups

Get a pull up bar and put it in a doorway. Do a few every time you walk by. I am 5'10" 185 pounds and I could not do one pull up 3 months ago. I have an appointment to West Point. After months of training, I can now do 7-9 reps in one set. It's about persistence. How bad do you want it?

pwcoyote,

It sounds like zajo24 was in a similar situation to you - he may have some good specific advice.

My DS (6"4' 195lbs) was at ~12 pullups and started the Armstrong pullup program (you can google it) and got to ~18 in 4 weeks. A couple more weeks and he was at a very solid 20. It works, you just have to stick with it and do it faithfully. Obviously you have farther to go than he did to hit max on the CFA, but as a junior you have plenty of time. The program was given to him by one of his USMC officer interviewers (for Marine Option ROTC).

Good luck!
