CFA Passing Scores

Hi - I'm a candidate seeking an appointment into West Point next year. I've been practicing the CFA and here's where I stand:

BB Throw: 71 ft
Pullups: 3 to 5 - This seems to be a very weak area for me, but is it failing?
Shuttle: 9.7 secs
Situps: 70
Pushups: 64
1-Mile: 7:27

I know the max and average scores, but would my scores (especially pullups and 1 mile run) be considered failing?

Thanks in advance!

Failing scores are not published for a reason. You should strive to get to at least the average. The later you wait to take the test, the less chance you will have to retest if you fail AND West Point wants you.

I would try to get your pull-ups and mile better. Both are areas you can improve with work. If you don't have a pull-up bar, get one of the doorway bars for your bedroom. They work great, and then when you walk through that door, if you gave 30 seconds, just do some pull-ups. You will improve those in just a few weeks. For the mile, just run most days. My son did 2 mile runs, as hard as he could, about 3-4 times a week, in adition to whatever running he did for varsity sports. There are good techniques, and training methods all over the internet.

If I was you I would work more before doing the CFA. Are those numbers under real timed circumstances? Done in the 40 minutes allowed by the CFA? If not, do a few full timed CFA practices.

Appreciate all the responses! It's a given that I will continue to work harder to improve the performance.

Yes, I tried to simulate the timing required on the CFA (execution & rest periods); I may have deviated, at most, 2-3 minutes before taking the mile run.

For the "veterans" on this board, what happens if you fail an event on the CFA? Will it show some red/negative/incomplete status on your portal?

Quick follow-up. I just finished the CFA and improved (most of) my scores to the following:

BB Throw: 76 ft
Pullups: 9
Shuttle: 8.71 secs
Situps: 80
Pushups: 69
1-Mile: 7:38 :( (had a bad stomach cramp on lap 2, but I sucked it down)

Did I pass, or is my mile time failing? Appreciate your inputs.
