CFA Scores - Push ups help

I thought about this too.

Then I figured when I do my CFA I will not be using the perfect push-up so my training and adaptation to using it will probably hinder my normal push-up count. I agree it's great for maximizing muscle tone but I have doubts as to if practicing on it will help as much as the good old fashioned "get on the ground and do it" approach.

i can just see all of the plebes running around with a perfect push up in each hand, and then getting yelled at to drop haha

Here is what I had done before CFA during SLS 07'
I wish this workout works for you. It should because it did for me.
(Push-ups: 32 -> 71reps in 5 weeks)
make sure you exhale when you push up!!!

On ODD days: Do 200 pushups in as few sets as possible in addition to your regularly scheduled workout of cardio exercises. You can still do upper body workouts on these days if you are already on a program. This is a supplemental 200 pushups using maximum repetition sets (4 x 50, 8 x 25 ... it's your choice how you get to 200).
On EVEN days: Do 200 pushups throughout the day. This can be little sets of ten done every half hour or fifty pushups done four times throughout the day.
RULE: If your maximum is under 50 pushups, do 200 a day. If your maximum is above 75, do 300 pushups a day.
Repeat the ODD/EVEN routine for a total of 10 days. Then take three days off and do NO upper body pushing exercises that work the chest, triceps, and shoulders. Then on day 14, give yourself the pushup test (one or two minutes depending on your PFT). I would not recommend this workout more than once every six months, since it rather challenging on the same muscle groups repeatedly.
Here are pictures of the three main types of pushups you can do to break up the monotony:
TRANING ONE:
1, 3, 5, 7, 9 ODD – 200 pushups in as few sets possible. (4 * 50) One Set per Hour
2, 4, 6, 8, 10 EVEN – 200 pushups throughout the day. ( 8 * 25) Every half an hour

Two days off.
13 – Push up TEST

14, 16, 18, 20, 22 – Same as above
15, 17, 19, 21, 23 – Same as above

Two days off
26 – Push up TEST
Do gentle push ups until CFA for the conditioning.

go to military.com and the fitness section.
it has an obscene amount of articles with detailed workout plans that will increase your CFA score. Alot of it is written for the Army PFT, but its almost the same thing, and the same workouts will help for both the CFA/PFT. look into, i'm going into basic this summer for split-op with the reserves, so i hope it works for both of us

Fitness assessment

What does it take to pass the fitness assessment? I found the average scores and I see 100%. It's not clear to me what you need to do to pass?

Thanks.

For purpose of the CFA would it be better to go quickly on the pushups or pace myself. My strength will run out before two minutes is done. So would it be better to slow down or just go quickly until I am done. Also, is there an effective method of resting while in the up position?

Everyone has their preferences but I used the balls out method. I just did around 50 as fast as I could then did intervals of 5.

Thats exactly what I did. But I did it to 40 instead of 50, then intervals of 5, then 3, then 2, then 1. then times up

i bought the iron gym to work on pull ups (i'm a girl) haha

but i understand your pain because i'm an xc and track person too. for push ups i did one of stew smith's routines. go google him!

Does the iron gym actually help? I was thinking about ordering one, but is the 39.99 worth it?

It only helps if you actually use it. It is worth the price. I believe its dropped down to 29.99 so go for it! I have one in my door and its helped me tremendously.

Of course, if you are going to put a pull up bar in the door, make sure the frame can handle more than your weight.

Just curious... How tall are 'yall with the pull up bar. I am wondering how effective it would be for someone (me) that is 6' 2". I find it harder to do a pullup when the bar is not high enough.

yeah, that one might be a problem, Im 5 8 and its not bad, but your size, prob wouldnt be good.

Remember, CFA won't make or break your shot, as long as you pass it.
I only took it once and did well enough to get an offer of appointment
