CFA Scores Question

Hello Everyone,

I just took the CFA today, but was a little worried about some of my scores, namely the basketball throw.

My Scores from today are as follows:

BB Throw-50 ft.
Pull-ups-9
Shuttle Run-9.1 s
Sit-ups-95
Push-ups-75
Mile-5:54

As I said, I am most worried about the BB throw and if it will hurt my score. Even though I was able to improve my throw from 30 ft at the beginning of the summer to 50 now, I am afraid it is still not good enough. I emailed my ALO with this same question, but, as of right now, she has yet to respond.

Thanks for the insight!

The throw, for a male, is a little short. The shuttle run, a tad slow.

Are they "harmful?" I don't think so. You have a superb mile, excellent pushups and situps.

No worries.

The CFA is scored...and you do receive points but in my experience...unless you are on the "really high" or "really low" end of the curve...it's mostly a "check, done and done well" mark.

Thanks Flieger for the quick reply and clarification! I feel a little more at ease now.

Thanks again!

Sorry about hijacking the thread:rolleyes: Quick question, with DS2 he is also on the slow side for the shuttle run, not a sprinter by any means but give him distance and he can go forever at a very constant pace. He is a distance swimmer, again because he does not seem to posses "short twitch" muscles. How much will an even slower shuttle run than AC11 has hurt. We do practice CFA's bi-weekly(for about 3 months now) and he has seen great improvements in multiple areas but the BB throw and shuttle run are his weakness. He will always continue practicing, and trying for improvement, I was just wondering.

kdc246, the answer will always be, it depends. I suppose if he were neck and neck with another candidate who ran just a little faster, and that candidate was on the line of receiving/not receiving an appointment, then it would have a large impact, but like others have said, the shuttle run is one small part of the CFA, which is just one part of the athletics portion of the WCS (in my understanding).

What I do recommend is focusing on efficiency in turning. This is where the greatest amount of improvement can be easily made. It is a short sprint, so changing directions very quickly will make a HUGE difference. I practiced running shorter distances to try and improve my turns. This guy is pretty good at it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkzMFtgcnZQ

Hey AC11

I am in the same boat. I have hit max in situps, pullups, pushups, and mile run but can only throw the basketball 54 feet. My ALO said that the BB throw is important but not enough to bring my entire score down, especially if you do well in other categories like you have.

That Shuttle Run link looks

different from our thoughts here. We thought DS would be running forward 30 feet, back 30 feet, and repeat. This is go 15, turn, go 30, turn, and go 15'. It
appears to be only 1/2 of the total distance in all. Can someone help? Thx!

This link is not for the USAFA CFA, it was merely to demonstrate the turning. It is called the pro agility or agility pro (?) shuttle and is used to measure performance improvements in college athletics (i.e tennis...:)). The CFA shuttle is 30 forward 30 back times 2.
