CFA

In my earlier post I said that my son was told that he should treat the averages as the minimum scores. There have been, however, a number of posts on this and other web sites from kids that got in that had a bad event, eg., one in which their result in a specific event was below the published average.

The CFA is a component of every candidate's "total candidate score" which the Admissions Office calculates as part of the admissions process. My recollection is that the CFA accounts for ten percent of the "total candidate score." As a result, every candidate should try to maximize his or her score on each CFA event as it will directly effect his or her "total candidate score." A MALO told us that in the spring the difference in the "total candidate score" of a candiate that gets into West Point and one that does not may be a point or two. So don't leave any points on the table!

took a practice test, my result are:

Basketball Throw: 67 ft.
Pull ups: 6
Sit ups: 60
Push ups: 55
Shuttle run: 10.0 seconds
One mile run: 7:23

would i pass? And any advise to improve?

I assume you're guy? If so, you're a little below average.

The average value table I found says:
Mean entering candidate performance scores by event and gender.
Male
Basketball Throw: 69 feet
Pull-ups: 11 reps
Shuttle Run: 8.8 seconds
Sit-Ups: 80 reps
Push-Ups: 60 reps
1 Mile: 6:40 Mins:secs

Whenever I need to work on sit-ups I aim for being able to do 3 minutes of non-stop sit-ups (work up to it). Put on a song that you like and just crank 'em out 'til the end of the song. Don't bother counting, aim for continuity. I was able to do 62 sit-ups in 60 seconds (for a different PT test) after about two weeks of this.

Push ups are a similar story; practice, practice, practice. Also, do pull-ups whenever possible. Practicing the shuttle run will help you learn how to manage the turn-arounds.

dude, you just reactivated a thread that was over 4 years old.......
NICE, but how did u find it?

i have problems with the shuttle run because I'm a pretty big guy.

Im 6,4 and 190 lbs

I take a practice cfa probably every two weeks

bb throw-80 feet
pullups-17
shuttle run-9.1
situps-maxed at 90
Pushups-70
mile-5.55

secret to pullups is do 5 sets of whatever you can do every night. the next week, you increase it by one and so forth. BB throw you just have to practice and shift your weight right. For the mile, just run.

On pushups, your allowed to rest at the up position and continue later right? Because its how many you can do in two minutes I think.

"One more thing--- these are the Averages from West Point. The Averages from USAFA and USNA are probably lower............"
"You're stalling ...I doubt you have any response at all."

Good observation. You are quick to note what the Academies have been dealing with forever. No candidate can be perfect in everything and the academies do have to compromise. WP goes for the "brawn" over "brain" and USNA is just the opposite.

"Sir, hmmm...I would check the Rhodes Scholarship stats before I make that statement

[edit] just realized it has been 5 years since his comments. Sorry poor attention to detail.
