Hello,
I am entering my junior year and am seriously considering the Coast Guard Academy. But I am having trouble determining if I am academically qualified. I figured out that my unweighted GPA comes out to a 3.7667 but that includes gym and other elective courses. I have heard that over 50% of candidates accepted to the Coast Guard Academy had a high school GPA of 3.75 or higher. My question is whether or not this statistic is based on the entire GPA or just academic courses. If I only count academic courses and foreign language my GPA is about 3.45. I realize this is not the only factor in admission to any college but it is helpful to know if you are on par with the competition or not.
I have taken almost all honor's courses in high school accept for 2 classes, and I am taking AP US History this year.
I play football
Elected to the student council for this year
I volunteer as a junior member of my fire department
intend to join the track team in the spring
and i am working on getting a chapter of the sea cadets started hear in Vermont because we do not have one.
I sang in the church choir for about six years until it was gone
I am also in the top ten to 15 percent of my class
also gunning for class treasurer
Thank for taking the time to read my post, it is helpful to get an honest opinion from someone other than your family.
Thanks,
Henry Empey
