A coach can't personally give you an LOA, however they can speak to admissions on your behalf. There are athletes and non-athletes who receive LOA's. Also, not many LOA's are given out AND it does not guarantee admission.Has anyone gotten a LOA from CGA? How do they work? Are they usually from a coach? How many are given out?
Would it guarantee admission if you are medically qualified and have completed everything else on checklist? I thought that was whole point of LOA? That’s what the letter seems to suggest…..?A coach can't personally give you an LOA, however they can speak to admissions on your behalf. There are athletes and non-athletes who receive LOA's. Your LOA if it comes with stipulations (DODMERB qualified, Final HS Grades, etc) will be explained when you get your letter/email.Would it guarantee admission if you are medically qualified and have completed everything else on checklist? Thank you for explaining. They are fed exing one to my applicant today. He has everything turned in and is medically qualified. He has one also from the USMMA but that was contingent on a congressional nom, which is not required for CGA so I was curious what would disqualify him.Your LOA if it comes with stipulations (DODMERB qualified, Final HS Grades, etc) will be explained when you get your letter/email.
No a nomination or even acceptance from USMMA is not disqualifying. He will need to choose however, and the date for that will will be in the LOA paperwork. As long as he fulfills all the stipulations associated with the LOA and keeps doing well in and out of school then there should be no issue. Stress to him to not take his foot off the gas regarding school and if he is active in sports, individual or group to be careful regarding injuries.Thank you for explaining. That bit about being careful of injuries to a highly competitive athlete is a bit nerve wracking- from my coaching and D1 competing, it seemed as though worrying about getting injured means your getting injured. No a nomination or even acceptance from USMMA is not disqualifying. Congratulations! LOAs are rare and a big deal! Curious, did he apply EA or RA?Thank you for explaining. They are fed exing one to my applicant today. Agreed. My DS was football and weightlifting, and for him football was over by decision time. The weightlifting with the possibility of winning states again was definitely on the mind. COVID took care of the season for him so no worries there. Mainly, don't do anything stupid! No unnecessary risks (back yard football, skate boarding, etc)That bit about being careful of injuries to a highly competitive athlete is a bit nerve wracking- from my coaching and D1 competing, it seemed as though worrying about getting injured means your getting injured.
He got one a few weeks ago from MMA (right before his congressional nom interview - which he was instructed to bring to the interview) and was late applying to CGA so I guess he’s RA? It was supposed to come today via fed ex. I haven’t been home to see if it’s there, but the coach called last night. I think they want him to commit for the sport.Congratulations! I guess, when I think of LOAs, it's a "letter of assurance" that unless something goes completely sideways, you should get an appointment. That said, I also always envision LOAs to be sort of earlier in the process. My daughter received one from USMMA as well last year, but it was in like early September long before appointments were being passed out.
If he applied RA, I would think the LOA is a great indicator that good things are coming. If he applied EA, I'd be thinking, why an LOA and not just straight to appointment?
Regardless, it's awesome!! Huge congrats and good luck!
Yeah EA deadline was Oct 15 and you have to specifally check a box saying you want EA review, otherwise it's RA. So this makes sense. He's in great shape! did your daughter end up choosing CGA?

Yes, my daughter chose CGA and loves it! It was by far her number 1. Her main goal was to ultimately serve as an officer in Coast Guard, so each of her college application choices were focused on that goal.
