My CGO is coming to my house in a couple weeks. Is this a new thing? I applied last year and failed to receive a visit. If anyone knows anything about this I would appreciate your opinion.
    Thanks!

CGO stands for Candidate Guidance Officer. I'm sure you meant BGO, Blue & Gold Officer.

You applied last year and never did a BGO interview? That's odd since it is a mandatory part of the application process. Did you FINISH the application process?

I get to thinking about back "in the day" when I applied to the Naval Academy. This was the early 70's. I heard of Blue & Gold Officers but I never met one, was never required to see one, and never got any advise from one. Back then, it seemed all they did was go to high schools and make presentations. They would answer questions if asked. And, I think, they were all, for the most part, graduates.

Nowadays, the BGOs are a much larger part of the process.

I meant my Candidate Guidence Officer. I was in constant contact with my BGO last year and have the same BGO this year. The weird thing is I've never heard of a CGO coming to visit.....

Maybe it's your Regional Director from Candidate Guidance. There are RDs and Diversity RDs. Both make field visits -- diversity officers more frequently than the RDs.

Last summer they utilized freshly minted Ensigns and 2nd Lts awaiting orders to both make phone calls and visit prospective candidates. If it is a new officer, this is probably it and it will be a very informal question and answer visit.

Yeah I think Mongo is right on. The Lt. told me that she was bringing an Ensign with her and she has called me several times over the last month.
This is the same person who is presenting me to the Board of Admissions. So I'm hoping the visit is a sign of good things to come!

It is indeed someone from the CGO who will present your file to the Board, usually the RD so it sounds to me as if '85 is correct. Or perhaps it is a training session for the Temp Duty Ensigns and you are the guinea pig.

why do CGO's make visits? is it usually to candidates who are closer to USNA? should every candidate at least recieve a call from their CGO?

Never heard from my plebe's CGO but did have the RD in our home. It was basically a recruiting visit. Spent quite a bit of time on the process to gain an appointment. Couldn't understand why he didn't already know she had an LOA in hand. Didn't say anything - just let him talk

A few weeks ago I had a visit with my Region Admissions Counselor. It was an informal question/answer type of thing. She contacted me and offered it. It was rather unexpected. Don't really know how/why they picked me and the purpose of it... But, it seemed good, regardless! I don't know what difference with that and a CGO is, but it sounds like a good thing, right? :thumb:

They are one and the same. The RDs and area coordinators are a part of the CGO.
