Chance me for VMI Regular Decision?

I'm applying to VMI as a second year transfer student for regular decision since I'm currently enrolled at a community college in Virginia. My high school final GPA is a 3.29. However, my SAT score is very low, which is a 1110. Last time I took the SAT was the fall of 2013. Never taken take the ACT. My community college GPA is currently a 3.64 with 6 classes (17 credits) total. All of them except a technology class (3 credit) are transferable.

Here are the classes I took during my first semester in community college:

Dual Enrollment (2012-2013):
ITN 101: B

1st Semester:

General Biology 1: A
College Composition 1: A
History of World Civilizations 1: A
College Success Skills: A
Precalculus 1: B

I've volunteered at a hospital by providing hospitality to patients in the ER. I also did 4 years of Navy JROTC (1 year as an company staff officer) in my previous high school. What are my chances of getting in?

By the way, I seen that some people had already got their acceptance letter for regular decision. When will I get my letter from the admissions office? I applied last October.

Also I sent 2 recommendation letters from my biology teacher and from the hospital I volunteered. Personal statement was also sent.

1 in 2 get accepted into VMI typically. Your chances are high, I'd say.

Thanks Fezlopez, however I still haven't heard back from VMI yet. I've seen people had already gotten their acceptance letters already since about a month ago. Do I still have a chance for getting accepted or will I be wait listed? When should I hear back? They never stated their notification deadline except for the ED applicants.

I believe that regular decision is supposed to be no later than the end of March.

My friend just got waitlist letter last Saturday, but I still haven't received anything from VMI yet. Is there still a chance that I'll get accepted at this point?

I'll give them another week then I'll go ahead and give them a call. Also quick update... I'm a latino. Will that decrease my chance of getting in? I heard admission counselors took more more white applicants last year than African Americans, Asians, etc. I also heard less than 20% applicants who accepted their conditional appointment are latinos last year.

They said last year's applicants had about 47 latinos who were accepted for conditional appointment. It doesn't sound like a lot at all.

DS was deferred from ED and still has not heard anything. He has contacted Admissions a couple of times when submitting documents which were acknowledged but nothing else. His deferral letter stated that he should be notified by the end of March (tomorrow). I don't know how many other applicants are in the same position but the lack of communication is frustrating.

I spoke too soon. DS got offer of appointment today. Good luck to other applicants.

Congratulations!!!! So I talked to the admissions and they said all applicants should be able to hear back the second week of April. So I may as well hear back by this week! I'll make another update once I receive a letter from them!

One last thing... My question is will I still have a good chance to get accepted at this time? I'm afraid that VMI has already lost 90% of their space. I think they only have few more spots to accept the remaining applicants since it's already the first week of April and the deposit deadline is approaching closely.... My point is I'm really not looking forward to be wait listed since this is the only school that I'm planning to transfer out when I finish my second semester here at my local community college. If I get wait listed and they won't be able to accept me by the end of June, then I'm not applying to VMI after this year since I will be focusing to transfer out to other 4 year universities when I complete my 4 semesters at my community college.

Why did you decide not to take the ACT, especially with what you determined to be a lackluster score on the SAT? Sometimes, scores can vary quite a bit between the two tests.

We're not really much of a "chance-me" type group here, at least among the adults.

You have the decent grades going forward, and your ethnicity might count if you are a URM there.

Good luck

Unfortunately, "chancing" someone is pointless. There are so many variables. It's really impossible to compare one student to another (unless you are an admissions officer). I will tell you that students have been accepted with your GPA, but you have to consider the difficulty of the school and the curriculum. I assume that your SAT score is for CR+M+W. My DS did much better on the ACT than the SAT. It may be too late but it would be worth taking the ACT. I know it's tough, but I recommend that you try staying positive. Hopefully VMI works out for you, but there is always more than one way to reach your goal. Keep the big picture in mind.
