If you have never gone through DodMerb, and have any medical issues at all this is the time to get your paperwork in order.
A DodMerb physical is very stringent and your lifetime medical records will be revealed. Things as simple as documented allergies that you never had to get shots for can become an issue. A broken ankle that required a pin can become an issue. PRK can become an issue.
Collect all of your medical records if you believe there is something that can become an issue. Contact MullenLE NOW to discuss it.
It is highly unlikely you will go to your family doc. They will most likely assign you to chose from 1 or 2 of their approved docs. IF you are military you can ask for it to be done at the base/post that your records are kept at.
People don't understand that what they think is simple from a medical standpoint can cause them to get a waiver. At this point you don't want to be applying for SFT and requesting a waiver too.
OBTW, C200 candidates who are already in the system are required once accepted to SFT to get a physical, and more shots. This is not the same as a DodMerb physical.
They are given a small time frame window. If I recall correctly DS had 2 weeks to do it. They can go to any doc and get the physical done. It is just a verification that they have all of their shots required and can see and hear...basically a yrly check up.
TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. It is important that candidates and cadets understand the difference.
Additionally, that being said if you are a parent with an OOS cadet you need to be prepared to have them jump since the window is small. They may be forced to go to a doc that is located near the university.
COPY all of their records (or have their home town doc do it) on a CD-ROM. Print out a copy for yourself, one for him. Mail the hard copy and the CD ROM to them. He/She can then take it to the doc to speed up the process.
Keep a copy in case it gets lost.
This will not be paid through the AF, it is on your own dime to get this down ~~~at least it was LY. Call around to find docs that take your insurance. Most universities Healt Center will do it, BUT make sure the DET will accept it.
I have to say we were jumping through hoops. Not only during that 2 week time frame period did he have to get and submit the physical/current shot records. He was also handed a 2 page list of what was required for his BAG DRAG.
There are items that are easy to come by, and items you have to search out.
The list ranges from moleskin to specific color spirals and pens. It is a large list...expect to spend 200 at least on the items required. Again, if you are an OOS parent, you need to be ready to jump.
You will get a grade on how will you complete this bag drag...in other words, if they say 3 blue permanent markers, they mean 3.
I am pretty sure DS found out @ March 1st, (his bday is only a few days earlier than that and when we saw him, he still had no answer if he was selected), he had until the 15th to get the physical done, and his bag drag was done a week later.
He did not find out which Maxwell he was attending until May.
