I have been reading this forum for a while and I always see the classic posts of "you don't know if you don't apply" and "no one on here can give you a real answer" but I am just too curious to see what you guys think.
Thank you :)

I think you have a strong chance. Have your grades gone up this semester, enough that you can raise that GPA? I'm fairly certain that's what's holding you down. What schools did you list?

1. University of Oklahoma (OOS)
2. James Madison University (IS)
3. Penn State
4. Georgia

Like I said, I think it was your GPA that was holding you back for the really competitive 1st Board. I'd be surprised if you didn't get at least a 3 year AD scholarship to your in-state school, if not better. Where'd you interview and how did it go?

One you have been boarded, your score will only go up with a raise in your SAT or ACT scores. Unfortunately, raising the GPA won't raise the score.

After reading another post in this thread regarding a return email they received, stating that the applicant did not receive a scholarship from this board and they will not be re-boarded but placed on an OML, it makes me wonder if they are allowing applicants to update their SAT/ACT scores anymore.

My GPA did not go up after 1st quarter and I do not plan on taking the SAT again

If JMU is your in state school you might not be in bad shape. I'm in the Duke battalion and this year we had 12 scholarship winners, 10 of whom were VA residents, so that could help you. I would say at this point, you are probably looking at a 3 year AD scholarship. Of the 12, only 2 got four years and they said they got theirs after the first board. Either way, good luck, you look competitive.

This has always been the case. Files are never reboarded, but an increase in SAT/ACT score will change the whole person score and may move the applicant up the pile a little bit. What can't change are interview scores, board member scores, and PFT scores. The file doesn't get relooked or rescored, just put in the pile (pile=OML).

Would this also mean that you can't really change the schools or their order after your file has already been boarded? So if you got a scholarship after the 2nd board it would be based on your original list?

I should defer to Clarkson on this but instead I'll let him confirm or correct my surmise. Since the school list does not impact the OML score, I would expect you could change it at almost anytime. Again this is just my surmise based on some form of convoluted logic.

Clarkson, Can you explain this? I am assuming candidates are given a certain number score and there may be MANY candidates with the same number (1-100?? or however the scores are calculated). How much increase in that number can change by new ACT/SAT scores? Is there a chart that defines what certain ranges on the tests receive certain OML points?

Also, Are you able to look at the kids whom have selected your school and see a OML# by their name or is that hidden from you? Always wondered about that.

Correct...school list can be adjusted at any time...I think it's a little bit of a pain though..You can only add to the bottom, so putting a new school at the top may involve resubmitting all the schools in the new order...

I can not see OML scores, in fact I don't think those are released. I can see the scores from the interview (which I don't give out, and no one should). There is a regulation that outlines how the scores are calculated.
Here is a blog post from a little over 1 year ago. This is how the score was compiled at that time. I don't think it has changed much for this year. I don't loose too much sleep over the scores because, as I say in the post, some things you can control and some you can't. http://goldenknightbattalion.wordpress.com/2012/07/13/the-whole-person-score-what-is-it/

I will tell those that are wanting to make changes to your school list, make sure that the changes are indeed done correctly. My son changed his list and for some reason it didn't take. We saw the changes on his application page, however CC had his original list.

I guess what I'm having a hard time getting my head around with the Army ROTC process, is that I thought that all PMS's were sent a list of the applicants who had listed their school as a choice for the schools to select "4-year," "3-year" or "no" for each applicant BEFORE it goes to the actual board. If the file then goes before the board and is given the Whole Candidate Score, but is not selected for a scholarship but rolls to the next board, will the files go back through the PMS 4/3/No process again before the 2nd or 3rd board? If they don't, how would a change of schools on the online application be acknowledged by the PMS's to allow them to get the scholarship to the newly selected school?

The other thing that I'm a bit confused about is that there has been mention that boards are also looking at your school choices as a component of the decision to give you a scholarship. Is that really how it happens? Isn't it the PMS's job to basically say "yes, I think this applicant can get into our institution and I would will be willing to use up one of my scholarship slots for this person?" I would think that the board is just then assessing the file and giving it the score and then after they know how many scholarships they can give, the top scoring candidates are matched up with the schools that they desire (and where the PMS wants them), assuming those schools still have slots/budget for that applicant.

Can you help me understand this all a bit better? With Navy ROTC is just seems to me that the file are scored and then you get your top school choice if is they still have slots, and if not, then just go down your school preference list without any consideration, as to if you can get admitted to the school.

I want to raise people's attention as well to the changing colleges thing. I sent an email requesting college changes and they changed them to the wrong colleges, which really surprised me, so make sure you check!!!!!

Was the order just messed up or did they have colleges that weren't even on your list? I'm a bit worried about this, too. When our DD had her PMS interview, he mentioned that she had listed 1 school 2 times on the list. When she look at the online application, it showed 5 different schools. How would even know that there was an error if something else is showing in the "background" other than what shows on the app?

The order wasn't messed up, they had listed the wrong college. It was crazy I'm sooo glad I checked. I asked for University of Mississippi and they gave me University of Minnesota, so I guess the two were kind of close so I can see how they might mess that up. I e-mailed them again explaining what happened and it was changed that day, so at least they are fast at updating!

My DS recently changed his order on the list of school's. He was able to do this at the online application. Is that not the proper way to change it? I know he went back in and verified that they are changed.

You can change it right on the application, no need to to take the risk asking CC to. I changed mine multiple times and it came out exactly how I wanted.
